Role Purpose

Gartner's core asset is its people.  Our people develop insights, share advice, and create experiences that help our clients be more successful.  The People Analytics team derives actionable insight from data to recommend and implement better ways of attracting, developing, and retaining our talent so that we can drive higher sales, more productivity, and better client experiences.  We drive impact on Gartner's Mission Critical Priorities by leveraging state of the art technology, analytics, and processes.

In the People Analytics Data Science group (PADS) our goal is to help deliver on the promises of People Analytics by building and deploying predictive and descriptive models based on observable data. We are creating a scalable Machine Learning Operations (MLOps) environment to allow us to quickly, efficiently, and ethically build models which can augment our employee, recruiter, and candidate experiences.

The goal of the Associate Director, Data Science in PADS is to deliver model-building projects to the business using their technical skills as well as their inquisitive nature. This is a complex role with a lot of growth potential which will require using task management and change management skills in addition to critical Machine Learning and Data Exploration implementation skills. The combination of these skillsets will allow the applicant to deliver accurate and ethical results on time. In addition to being complex, this role also needs strong technical skills to understand the methods used in order to explain both model decisions as well as model creation decisions.

Major Responsibilities/ Accountabilities


  • Work with HR and business leaders to identify and understand opportunity areas where we can use predictive and exploratory models to help address pain points in our internal processes.

  • Create and execute against a project plan that includes:

    • working with business stakeholders to identify what their pain points are;

    • building models or other data-driven products that help address those processes, and

    • maintain and deploy developed models and/or process changes;

    • lead effective change management to ensure models are adopted by stakeholders; and

    • monitor models and/or process changes to determine whether they are having the intended business impact.



  • Application of Machine Learning and Statistical methods which will be the most useful for HR processes.

  • Manage and oversee the testing models for fairness and bias and being conscious of the many ways in which bias can affect processes.

  • Assisting in the roll out of an MLOps infrastructure on Azure to manage models, data, data drift, and model deployments.

  • Visualizing data and model results to explain modeling decision to data-literate audiences.

Impact of Role: Expected Results

As the first hire reporting to the Director, People Analytics Data Science, this role will have a strong impact on the culture of the team that will be built around them. After an acclimatization period, they will be responsible for delivering, monitoring, and improving one of our leading services to the organization. The ability to plan and execute on the whole data science pipeline will help them succeed.

This role is internal facing and will be working with other teams such as:


  • People Analytics and Operations (PAO) - Data Engineering, Reporting, Consulting, Projects, & HR Information Systems

  • HR Teams - Talent Acquisition, Compensation and Benefits, Leadership & Organizational Effectiveness, Diversity Equity & Inclusion, & HR Partner Organization

  • Various business stakeholders across Gartner Business Units, including Sales and Finance

  • Information Technology

Education

Master's degree or PHD in any of:


  • Computer Science/Engineering,

  • Electrical Engineering,

  • Physics,

  • Engineering,

  • Mathematics,

  • Statistics,

  • Data Science

  • Adjacent topics (STEM or Mathematical degrees),


OR

Equivalent business experience

Professional Experience

Minimum of 5+ years work experience, of which include:


  • 5+ Years of relevant technical work experience

  • 2+ Project/Task Management
