We are looking for a research scientist who will design and conduct research in the area of complex disease genetics and next-generation sequencing based studies. The primary responsibilities include development of protocols for the library preparation and sequencing, instrument operation and maintenance, problem solving, training and supervising the laboratory technician, among others.

This is a full time position that will be eligible for all UTHealth benefits as a State of Texas employer.

Position Key Accountabilities:


  • Design and conduct research in the area of complex disease genetics and next-generation sequencing based studies. The primary responsibilities include development of protocols for the library preparation and sequencing, instrument operation and maintenance, problem solving, training and supervising the laboratory technician, among others.
  • Assist grant proposal development and manuscript writing
  • Train and supervise junior lab members
  • Provide support and training of genome technologies and bioinformatics analysis to cancer and other investigators through UTHealth Cancer Genomics Core

Minimum Education:

Doctorate Degree.

Minimum Experience:

Two (2) years of experience in a related research environment and have verifiable publications within the field of the research project.

Additional Qualifications:

At least Four (4) years of research experience in human genetics or related field is preferred.

Good knowledge in NGS platforms.

Strong attention to detail, accuracy, scientific professionalism, and deadlines.

Excellent communication skills both written and verbal.

At least be familiar with one computer programming, excellent knowledge and skills in genomic technologies and genomic data analysis. Previous publication in genomics or bioinformatics.

Physical Requirements:

Exerts up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or negligible amount of force constantly to move objects.
This position may include work involving potentially hazardous chemical, biological or radioactive agents.
