Primary Function of Position:

Contribute to the Surgical Data Science and Machine Learning team responsible for advanced analytics and new technology development focused on the performance for next generation robotic surgery platforms.

The successful candidate must excel in a high-energy, focused, small-team environment, be able to communicate effectively with engineering and health professionals, and have a commitment to high quality research and product development. A strong sense of shared responsibility and shared reward is required.

As part of the Surgical Data Science and ML team, responsibilities include:


  • Ensure quality annotations across a team of annotation specialists

  • Manage annotation workloads to support digital products and research efforts

  • Lead in the development, optimization of, and monitoring of agile annotation assignments and workflows through defined key performance indicators

  • Lead in the development of training processes and materials for annotation responsibilities

  • Collaborate with technical teams to support ML and digital project-related annotation

  • Create a collaborative, cohesive team with opportunity for professional growth of top performers


Skill/Job Requirements:

Competency Requirements: (Competency based upon education, training, skills and experience). In order to perform the responsibilities of this position, the individual must have:


  • B.S. degree in Engineering, Biology, or related field with minimum 3-5 years of related experience managing teams; or M.D., R.N., or similar clinical experience with team leadership experience

  • Experience managing and motivating teams that perform manual processes

  • Excellent attention to detail and great team player

  • Demonstrate excellent organization skills to coordinate diverse project portfolios

  • Demonstrate excellent communication skills both written and verbal

  • Ability to manage time effectively across multiple projects with differing priorities

  • Experience or strong interest in developing training materials for annotation processes or related areas is desired

  • Experience with video data annotation is desired

  • Interest to learn about and to characterize surgical workflows and critical anatomies across many surgical specialties is desired

  • Experience communicating with surgeons and OR staff is desired

  • Ability to travel domestically and internationally (10-15%)
