Job Description:

The Lead Member of Technical Staff is a senior role that requires experience in the mobile and cellular industry for 10 years or more. The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of network architectures and operations on an end to end basis. The role requires the person to be an influencer with strong communication skills, ability to analyze technologies and options and make recommendations. The ability to collaborate across multiple teams, organizations and business units internally and externally are critical. Customer interaction on technology related topics is essential and past experience is a requirement.

The candidate defines Network architectures, Technical Solutions and ensures alignment; Provides technical leadership for the evolving architectural capabilities of the entire solution. Works closely with the IT system Architects and Customer System Engineers to ensure that individual program and product strategies align with business and technical objectives. Facilitates important design decisions for development teams. Will also drive strategy and technology direction.

Key responsibilities:

  • Defines a shared technical and architectural vision
  • Specifies the components and their interactions that comprise the End to End Integrated Architecture including: Work with customers, stakeholders, and development teams to define the high-level solution
  • Determine the primary components and subsystems and analyze technical trade-offs; Identify interfaces and collaborations between them
  • Work with portfolio stakeholders, customers, Enterprise Architects, System Engineers and development teams to align the architectural direction
  • Establish incremental implementation strategy and technical foundation for the architectural runway; Abstraction and generalization to preserve architectural flexibility and future growth
  • Ensure that common technology, design practices, and infrastructure are used when applicable and Facilitate the reuse of components, network elements and features

Technical skills:

  • 3GPP standards and mastery of network architectures
  • Mobility protocols, Diameter, SS7, Packet cores for UMTS, LTE and 5G
  • Voice services that include legacy CS voice, IMS, VoLTE and evolving standards
  • Roaming, IPX and GRX, Local breakout
  • Policy based networking and automation
  • Messaging services; SMS, RCS, IMS/SIP based
  • OSS/BSS architectures and integration
  • Connectivity and device management
  • 3G, UMTS, LTE, LPWA, 5G NSA and SA, Wi-Fi
  • Charging and Rating, Billing systems
  • Edge computing, MEC and service orchestration
  • APIs, Platforms and interworking functions
  • Security architectures
  • Internet protocols, Routing, MPLS and IETF standards

Education: Preferred Masters of Science degree in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Applied Science, Electrical Engineering


Required Qualifications -
  • Entry into this title requires Technical Title Plan (TTP) Board Approval
  • Candidate shall have a PhD in an approved field from an accredited university and a minimum of 10 years of relevant experience, or a Master's degree in an approved field from an accredited university and a minimum of 12 years of relevant experience, or a Bachelor's degree in an approved field from an accredited university and a minimum of 14 years of relevant experience.
  • Proven expertise in end-to-end Systems Engineering, Architecture or Design in the areas of IP Networks and Content Delivery Networks
  • Advanced knowledge of hardware, operating systems, MS-IPTV infrastructure, relevant IP and web-based protocols, network and application components
  • IP Networking and Unix/Linux skills
  • Relevant web protocols/environments include but are not limited to: XML, HTTP, TCP/IP;  Java, JS, HTML, PL/SQL, C#, .NET, Windows Server, Linux, Unix, IIS & STB client technologies
  • Key technical expertise areas: routing (IP/BGP, Internet peering), COS, DNS, CP/IP performance, Ethernet.  IP/Router hands on experience
Desired Qualifications -
  • Relevant industry certifications
  • Experience working on government projects
  • Working knowledge of Security Management Practices
  • Experience or background in IP network design or AT&T CBB/AGN networks
  • Experience with interdomain routing (BGP) and peering
