Primary Function:

 

The Supply Chain / Materials Manager position manages the materials team to drive adherence and best practices to ensure achievement of the material scheduling, operating, and production schedules to achieve customer requirements, align plant capacity, optimize the utilization of the workforce and minimize manufacturing costs. This individual is responsible for covering incoming material supply (internal/external), demand scheduling, inventory accuracy and attainment of desired finished good safety stock levels needed to fulfill customer demand.  This position reports to the Director, Materials Management with functional support to the Plant Manager.

 

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

Directs scheduling and procurement supply planning of raw materials. Oversees inventory accuracy/cycle count program and all inventory transactions. Directs Receiving & material handlers and cycle count personnel.

 

Duties and Responsibilities:

 

SIOP:


  • Works with SIOP team members to properly forecast demand and create supply chain plans that ensure availability of materials or products

  • Develop and implement new systems, best practices, inventory control, demand planning, and other optimization techniques in order to grow the business.

Planning / Scheduling:


  • Develop and implement a robust master scheduling process for the plant / distribution center.


  • Run the daily material planning meetings and ensure that the 3-day, 10-day, and 30-day planning windows are executed properly.

    • Responsible for effective planning & scheduling to meet production/customer demand.

    • Fulfill, monitor & set needed safety stock levels of finished goods to meet delivery targets and inventory reduction strategies.

    • Oversee fulfillment/expediting of inter-company requirements

    • Oversee creation/distribution and maintenance of adequate work orders.

    • Ensure all materials are available for successful execution on shop floor.



Purchasing Management:


  • Oversee all daily procurement activities needed to fulfill production demand.

  • Utilize min/max just-in-time, Kanban and warehousing replenishment programs with international and domestic suppliers.

  • Maintain enough raw material / DOH stocking levels.

  • Responsible for efficient and accurate MRP functionality.

  • Establish and enforce procedures to ensure proper recording, storage and tracking of all inventory items purchased and produced by the company.

  • Oversee MRO/expense procurement

  • Work with suppliers concerning forecasted needs/supply pipe line integrity.

  • Oversee/execute product transition / new product development plans.

Inventory Management & Control


  • Analyze inventories to determine how to increase inventory turns, reduce waste, and optimize customer service.

  • Monitor forecasts to identify changes and to determine their effects on supply chain activities.

  • Owns inventory accuracy and its associated systems and processes to ensure accuracy including cycle count program fulfillment, effective material disposition of obsolete and slow-moving material, etc.

  • Develop and implement continuous improvement strategies for improving material inventory, including finished goods.

  • Responsible for maintaining control of all appropriate transactional integrity, procedures and policies are being fulfilled, monitored and reported.

Logistics:


  • Oversee ordering and importing ocean shipment containers, as well as complying with customs regulations and maintaining relationships with freight forwarders and coordinating their deliveries and cost saving efforts.

  • Effective communication/scheduling of inbound with logistics providers.

  • Oversee cross dock loads for internal transportation.

Receiving:


  • Responsible for directing receiving personnel and receiving function.

  • Ensure all delivery receipts and put-a-way processes are being executed accurately and timely.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

Directly supervises Planning/Scheduling, Purchasing, and Receiving functions.

 

Minimum Qualifications/Experience:


  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Operations, Supply Chain, or other related discipline.

  • 10+ years of progressive experience with a combination of material planning, logistics, production scheduling, procurement, and inventory control.

  • 2-5 years of direct management experience of supply chain or materials teams in an industrial manufacturing environment.

  • Preferred APICS CSCP or CPIM certified

  • Working knowledge, understanding and demonstrated use of SIOP principles

  • Experience using ERP/MRP systems such as SAP, Oracle, JD Edwards or LN and Microsoft Office Suite (especially Excel pivot tables)

  • Ability to formulate and implement continuous improvement initiatives (use of 6-Sigma, Kaizen, process mapping, tree diagrams, root-cause-analysis, etc.)

  • Strong ethics, values and the ability to influence other’s decision making

  • Strong communication skills to collaborate effectively with internal and external customers and suppliers.

  • Strong analytical, problem solving, project management and facilitator skills.

  • Excellent attention to detail, highly organized, and process-driven.

  • Willing to travel to and from the Brownsville, Texas and Matamoros, Mexico facilities weekly, or as needed.
