Director, Federal Tax

Alvarez & Marsal Taxand is seeking a Director to join our growing Federal Tax practice in Washington, DC. Our Federal Tax team specializes in providing consulting and compliance services to multinational public and private companies.

What will you be doing?

As a Director for the Federal Tax practice, you will


  • Manage tax provision preparation for quarterly and annual reporting for both SEC registrants and private entities;

  • Advise clients on tax accounting aspects of complex transactions, including IPO readiness, acquisitions, corporate restructurings, restatements, and post-bankruptcy fresh start accounting;

  • Lead special projects in specific technical areas such as tax basis balance sheets, valuation allowance, accounting for uncertain tax positions, indefinitely reinvested earnings assertion, outside basis differences, and share-based payments;

  • Review clients’ tax accounting processes and internal controls for assessment of risk and remediation actions;

  • Manage U.S. tax compliance projects for multinational companies;

  • Build client relationships and demonstrate a working knowledge of client businesses;

  • Conduct day-to-day management of accounts to ensure delivery of timely and accurate work product;

  • Supervise, develop, mentor, and motivate our Associates and Senior Associate team by actively participating in their advancement through on-the-job training, providing performance feedback, counseling, and fostering our team-based atmosphere;

  • Assist with business development, including add-on business.

Qualifications:


  • 5+ years’ experience in tax consulting

  • Partnership tax experience preferred

  • Bachelor or Masters in Accounting or Taxation

  • Licensed CPA or JD/LLM required

  • This position will have significant executive experience, therefore, proven, excellent communication skills with management and clients are required

  • Excellent research and writing skills

  • Experience with all Microsoft Office products (with an emphasis on Excel), GoSystems, and research software

  • 1+ years of experience as a Tax Manager in a public accounting firm preferred
