Ashland has an exciting opportunity for a Production Manager to join our Specialty ingredients G.P., business at our Parlin, NJ. This is a very visible, significant role within the Company and the Plant Operations function. This position will report to the Plant Manager.

The responsibilities of the position include, but are not limited to, the following:


  • Responsible for all aspects of Natrosol manufacturing operation to include meeting strategic business goals, regulatory requirements, and leadership of exempt, non-exempt, wage employees and assigned contractors

  • Responsible for insuring plant EHS compliance (State, Federal, and company) for Natrosol manufacturing operation

  • Effectively work with company S&OP to insure on-time, in-spec delivery of products to meet customer requirements

  • Provide support to capital projects including design, commissioning, and start-up

  • Utilizes Lean manufacturing techniques/tools for identification and implementation of continuous improvement projects

  • Maximize the efficiency of production line and ensure effective equipment and employee utilization

  • Insure personnel accountability for operations organization

  • Act as a steward of assets and ensure delivery of planned levels of performance including operating budget, people, inventories and capital

  • Act as a positive change agent in critical performance aspects identified in the manufacturing strategic plan: process capability, plant reliability and customer satisfaction.

  • Maintain employee safety and morale by creating a safe working environment

  • Review and analyze production, quality control, maintenance, and operational reports

  • Other duties as needed to insure safe and compliant operation of the plant

In order to be qualified for this role, you must possess the following:


  • BS Degree in Chemical Engineering or related discipline

  • 7+ Years chemical and/or refining industry experience showing progression throughout career

  • 3+ years supervisory experience, union environment preferred

  • Ability to lead and motivate employees at all levels of the organization

  • Experience in a PSM covered process

  • Relevant military experience will be considered

The following skill sets are preferred by the business unit:


  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (both oral and written) with the ability to effectively interact and communicate with all departments and levels of the organization

  • Emerson Delta V experience

  • Lean Manufacturing/6 Sigma experience

  • Proactive, self-motivated and demonstrate ability to handle multiple projects, changing priorities and frequently heavy workloads which may require work in addition to normal working hours

  • Think clearly and solve multifaceted problems in the field with personnel of various degrees of skill levels, education and training.
