Job Description:

Unit Controls Product Manager Overview:


Daikin Applied is seeking a highly motivated, self-starting individual to fill the role of Product Manager, Unit Controls. The qualified candidate will be highly self-disciplined in task and time management, analytical minded, and able to operate independently. They should possess leadership qualities that enable them to make recommendations and drive the execution of tasks, programs or strategies quickly. This leader will also be a working, hands-on manager who is able to engage stakeholders both within and outside of the Daikin organization, establishing themselves as the go-to expert for this product area. A candidate with prior HVAC knowledge or experience in the industry is preferred. Prior product life cycle management (PLM) of controllers, PLCs or similar controllers or controlled devices is highly desired. Incumbent must be comfortable and have prior experience with product requirements capture, prioritization and management, through ongoing Voice of Customer engagement and related activities.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.


 



  • Plans, organizes, and controls product line from conceptual stages through product life cycles to optimize profit and meet marketing, financial, and corporate growth objectives.

  • Develops and manages end of life / sunset and migration programs for unit controls, to enable successful continuity of offering of Daikin's HVAC equipment

  • Develops strategic plan for product line; advise unit controls or component selection and make vs. buy

  • Leads Voice of the Customer efforts to ensure we identify internal and external customer needs on a continual basis. Prioritizes and integrates findings into Daikin manufactured HVAC equipment, as part of the product requirements management discipline.

  • Creates and manages marketing requirements, including features, cost, quality, reliability, serviceability and performance targets, based on VOC/OVOC and stakeholder input.

  • Prepares and evaluates product specifications from 3rd party suppliers

  • Advises management regarding technical issues and provides recommendations so that persons without specialized subject knowledge can act or make decisions.

  • Leads or shares efforts to incorporate products into a consolidated technology platform approach across multiple lines of Daikin Applied equipment.

  • Analyzes market trends and potentials. Prepares forecasts for use in planning manufacturing operations and controlling inventories.

  • Evaluates competitor products and solutions; performs competitive analysis at regular intervals

  • Reviews complaints and suggestions relative to assigned product or products.

  • Recommends new product concepts; provides business justification for initiating projects

  • Coordinates activities with Engineering, Manufacturing and other functional areas to ensure synergy of objectives.

  • Assists in developing project schedules and assessing risk

  • Provide industry knowledge on BAS protocols, controls trends that would impact project

  • Review and provide input to and approve controls test plan

  • Review, provide to customer and technical lit/documentation related to controls

  • Bachelor's degree (Business, Technical, Scientific or Engineering)

  • Seven to ten years of related experience.

  • Strong written and oral communication skills are mandatory. The right candidate will utilize these capabilities regularly to successfully document and communicate requirements from stakeholders to Daikin management/leadership.

  • Understanding of electrical components and control systems



  • Ability to evaluate tradeoffs in order in order to achieve product objectives



  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions: problem-solving

  • Comfortable with and capable of using all tools in the Microsoft Office / Office 365 suite (including Word, Excel, TEAMS, Outlook, PowerPoint).

  • Ability to lead or facilitate meetings, guide/direct dialog; capture, summarize & document issues/actions and report to stakeholders

  • Ability to manage multiple programs or initiatives simultaneously

  • Knowledge of stage gate programs/processes; ability to synthesize and present information coherently. This may include taking information from a wide range of sources, then identifying and clearly presenting what's critical for decision makers

  • Ownership, responsibility and the ability to see tasks to completion
