Job Description

The Strategy & Innovation Brand Manager leverages consumer, customer and category insights along with emerging trends to drive development of 3 to 5 year strategic business plan and supporting innovation pipeline to deliver strategic business plan.


  • Leads development of the SBP, collaborating with the cross functional team to ensure holistic representation of the business.


  • Creates and maintains the rolling 5 year Innovation Portfolio Pathway, assuring the consumer is at the heart of everything we do.


  • Disciplined focus on growing equity and leadership within the Demand Spaces we want to own.


  • Collaborates closely with Research & Engineering (R&E) and Insights & Analytics (I&A) teams for innovation development, as well as the brand execution team for a seamless connection through execution.


  • Develops claims strategy and pathway – starting with lighthouse claims, and back casting into specific claims that we want to achieve by certain years (which will become the brief for the R&E Front End Innovation (FEI) teams to get after solving through invention).


  • Holistic staging of news across product, promise, channel and packaging, allowing us to 1) give product innovation time and space to capture its full impact and benefit, and 2) give R&E time and space to invent the next wave of meaningful breakthrough against our targeted claims.


  • Creates a connection with the SBP and provides line of sight to key cost transformation goals relative to the cost of future innovation, as well as capacity metrics relative to growth we expect to achieve. 


  • Leads Portfolio process, a bi-annual review with the cross functional leadership team for alignment on priorities and focus, and a monthly meeting with the cross functional project teams to help drive focus and clarity on priorities.


  • Provide marketing leadership over IMF projects, ensuring a seamless transition to the commercialization and launch team (typically at BFI).


  • Lead concept and claim development and validation.


  • Lead quantitative assessment of innovation & concepts (e.g. BASES).


  • Partner with Global team to ensure that work flowing through NA (innovation, concept look, tone, feel, etc.) is consistent with global brand profile and foundational tools.


  • Collaborates across the K-C N. American business to both adopt and scale best practices in the strategy and innovation space.


Basic Qualifications:


  • Bachelor's Degree in Business/related field and minimum 3-5 years prior marketing experience in brand management with CPG Company.


  • Solid understanding of brand foundational tools, consumer insight identification, segmentation and target development.


  • Ability to pull insights from multiple sources and synthesize into a compelling story for change.


  • High familiarity with strategy development and innovation processes.


  • Strong skills and experience with diagnosing and resolving complex problems and opportunities.


  • Ability to craft vision and strategy and make it come to life with actionable plans.


  • Strong analytical, decision making, influence, and compelling communication skills.


  • Demonstrated ability to lead and inspire cross functional teams to deliver strong innovation plans.


  • Highly capable of writing/evaluating initiative and communications briefs and concept development.


  • Entrepreneur can-do attitude to find ways to break down growth barriers.


  • Demonstrated positive energy to effectively represent brand internally and externally.
