Best Buy is seeking an innovative and technically curious Senior Engineering Manager – Development Platform to join Best Buy's Resilience, Reliability and Quality Team. The SEM must be able to understand and demonstrate the discipline of providing, supporting and maintaining development and testing environments for Best Buy’s Digital and Technology teams.

SEM is expected to be a technical thought leader helping us build cloud solutions shaping the future of Development Platform. The successful candidate will be the senior contributor in the implementation of next-gen technology stacks for BBY’s Development Platform. They will be a self-starter with ability to understand development and test strategy and liaise with relevant teams and efficiently direct how dev/test should be built and managed. In this role, you'll be called upon to lead agile teams of skilled web infrastructure engineers and test environment engineer.

You will be liaising frequently with Product and Development teams as well as quality engineers to help determine future environment capability and the requirements needed. You will direct, control, and manage the enterprise level test environments using process, tools and resources.

Key position responsibilities include:

• Candidates must have demonstrated the ability to understand modern approaches to deployment automation on both cloud-based infrastructure and bare-metal servers and work closely with appropriate technology partners to bring about changes


• Oversee planning, prioritization, execution & delivery of cloud migration of Dev Platform spanning multiple stakeholders


• Partner with infrastructure engineering teams (on-premises & cloud) to adopt standards & patterns for Development Platform


• Ensure the successful implementation of Program Objectives using KPIs and milestone tracking


• Demonstrate pro-active approach in resolving issues and enhancing supportability of environments


• Help design systems to support CI/CD initiatives and support on-demand, self-service automation


• Ensure all environments are properly documented and that documentation is socialized appropriately

• 8+ years related web infrastructure experience with a bachelor’s degree in Engineering or related field


• 2+ years of leadership experience


• Experience in migrating applications from the enterprise to public cloud providers (e.g. Amazon, Google, or Microsoft)


• 6+ years’ experience with server-side technology such as such as Apache, NodeJS, HAProxy, Tomcat & Jboss


• Good knowledge in shell programming experience with technology such as Perl, Ruby, Python


• Experience with container orchestration systems such as Docker (OpenShift or Kubernetes)

• Able to collaborate in a fast-paced environment with different stakeholders including engineers, testers, product managers, and user experience leads


• 4+ years' experience in Database administration such as MySQL, Cassandra & Oracle


• 4+ years of experience with messaging infrastructure such as IBM MQ, RabbitMQ, Kafka


• Experience with server monitoring systems like Prometheus or Nagios


• Experience with server automation with Chef configuration management tool


• Ability to manage time and priorities


• Excellent at problem solving/Critical Thinking


• Inquisitive, with a willingness to ask questions


• Able to identify patterns and discrepancies in data


• Extensive experience in implementation of the version control software SVN, CVS, Git


• Experience using Maven to build, run and create JARs and WAR files among other uses
