Golder has a new opportunity for a Civil Engineer to join our Buffalo, NY office on a full-time basis. The employee will be engaged primarily in solid waste related projects involving engineering design, permitting, construction quality assurance, and construction management. The employee may also be involved in subsurface investigations and remediation projects across a range of client sectors. Golder's global network of offices allows for many opportunities to work on complex and technically challenging projects locally and around the world. The position requires travel and field work as dictated by project demands.

Responsibilities of the role will include:


  • Engage in a team environment, working closely with project managers and co-workers to complete work programs
  • Safely performing work, both in the field and office, and operating vehicles on behalf of the company
  • Perform engineering design calculations and prepare construction documents, including engineering drawings, specifications, and bid documents, for a variety of environmental site remediation projects
  • Serve as a resident engineer / site lead for construction quality assurance
  • Be willing and able to work on projects involving landfills and other lined structures, underground facilities, and other civil applications
  • Assist with writing proposals, reports, cost estimating, specifications, and permit documents with senior technical advice and review
  • Handle equipment, including operation, calibration, and maintenance, in accordance with regulatory requirements; and ability to lift and move approximately 50 pounds without assistance
  • Coordinate and provide oversight of subcontractors (e.g., surveyors, laboratories, drillers)
  • Document field activities (e.g., field forms, field notebooks, daily reports) and verbally communicate site conditions, observations, and activities
  • Travel for out-of-town project opportunities
  • Work outdoors in all seasonal weather conditions
  • Interpret subsurface conditions and prepare investigation records (e.g., borehole logs)
  • Contribute to environmental monitoring and technical reports, including compiling field and analytical data

The preferred candidate will possess:

  • Bachelor's degree in civil / environmental engineering or related discipline
  • Storm water flow and retention calculations, pumping and piping design skills
  • Survey and topographic mapping skills
  • EIT certification preferred; ability to obtain EIT within 2 years required
  • While not required, experience in the solid waste field, including internships, is preferred
  • Strong verbal communication, writing, analytical, and organizational skills combined with a positive attitude and an ability to work both independently and within groups
  • Competence with Microsoft Office (e.g., Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint) ; preferential consideration for candidates with AutoCAD, HydroCAD, PondPack, and other engineering software proficiency
  • Attention to detail; accuracy is essential
  • Willingness to perform a variety of assignments on short notice
  • Understanding the importance of health & safety as a top priority and an eagerness to participate in Golder's associated programs
  • 10-hour OSHA Construction Safety training is required for site work; preferential consideration for candidates with this training
