Accounts Receivable Supervisor at Sonesta International Hotels Corporation in Newton, Massachusetts

Job Description Summary

The Accounts Receivable Manager is responsible for managing the daily accounts receivable activities at the Sonesta Shared Services Center (SSC) in support of Sonesta’s managed hotel footprint. The role will report to the Director, Accounts Receivable and will manage a team of AR Clerks.

Job Description


  • Manage the AR team to ensure efficient, timely, and accurate daily AR operations, including collections, billing, cash application, write-offs, and month-end close duties

  • Review and process direct bill applications for new customers to be approved by the Director, Accounts Receivable

  • Assist hotel operations management staff with group billing, as necessary

  • Review and ensure that payments are accurately applied to accounts receivable from the daily cash receipts

  • Ensure that credit card settlements are reconciled daily

  • Responsible for creating and implementing strategies to increase the amount of successful collections and minimize bad debt exposure

  • Investigate and resolve complex billing, payment, cash application, reconciliation, and system-related issues through collaboration and cross-functional teams

  • Verify the adequacy of credit for all in house guests by reviewing Property Management System (PMS) generated reports on a weekly basis and resolve any potential in-house credit risks

  • Monitor and execute key metrics

  • Produce monthly consolidated AR Aging report across hotel portfolio and review with Director, Accounts Receivable

  • Provide AR-related commentary for internal management reporting and external financial reporting, and support other reporting needs, as required

  • Daily review and analysis of accounts’ status, providing appropriate follow-up for overdue payments and determining correct course of action to collect past due balances

  • Handle issue escalations from team members as required


  • Identify process improvement opportunities and lead related change implementation

  • Create and update standard operating procedures for the department

  • Provide support to the Director, Accounts Receivable as needed

A candidate for this position must possess the following applicable knowledge, skills and abilities and be able to demonstrate and provide applicable examples to support his/her competency.


  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance or related field

  • 5+ years of AR/Billing experience required

  • 3+ years of AR team management experience required

  • Strong leader who thrives on coaching, training and building a great team environment

  • Must be PC-proficient and able to thrive in a fast-paced setting

  • Ability to proactively communicate and work effectively with hotel staff, corporate management, and internal customers.

  • Ability to think outside the box and challenge the status quo.

  • Attention to detail, problem solving and trouble shooting skills are essential.

  • Excellent oral and written communication.

  • Ability to multi-task, work under pressure and meet deadlines required.

  • Must thrive in a teamwork setting and have excellent organizational skills.
