Essential Position Functions :

 



  1. Transcribes physicians orders demonstrating accuracy. efficiency and neatness.


  2. Utilizes Order Communications accurately for ordering, information and communication. Maintains system on-line.


  3. Demonstrates effective communication skills which relay clear, timely and accurate information.


  4. Maintains the integrity and availability of patient records.


  5. Makes appropriate referrals, including notification of consultation, arrangement for ambulance transfers and patient appointments. Documents and forwards information accurately and efficiently.


  6. Supports department’s customer service efforts. Provides service excellence to patients and their families, medical staff, peers, support services and other hospital personnel. Refers customer complaints to charge nurse for collaborative problem solving.


  7. Demonstrates an awareness of, and support for, the hospital’s Mission and Values Statement and Strategic Plan. Assists in the formation and accomplishment of unit goals and objectives.


  8. Performs all duties maintaining patient confidentiality, privacy and respect. Complies with HIPAA guidelines.


  9. Participates in hospital and departmental inservices, processes and committees which promote growth, objective problem solving, and team building


  10. Maintains a safe and therapeutic environment for patients, families, staff, and corrects hazards promptly by implementing maintenance requests and notifying appropriate departments. Adheres to hospital safety policy and procedure.


  11. Follows the principles of Infection Control as outlined in the Policy and Procedure Manual.


  12. Participates in departmental Performance Improvement program by collaborating with the department's PI representatives and Nurse Manager in developing and implementing effective PI programs.


  13. Complies with established hospital policies and procedures.


  14. Demonstrates a commitment to containing costs and efficient use of material resources.

  15. Responsible for ordering and managing unit floor stock and supplies.

 

Non-Essential Position Functions :



  1. Participates in hospital/departmental committees.




  2. Performs other duties as assigned or as judgment or necessity dictates.




  3. Assists departmental staff in transporting patients to/from for procedure, comfort or discharge as requested.



Qualifications


Position Qualifications:

Strong interpersonal skills required to deal effectively with family, patients, and medical staff. Ability to work in a fast paced, high stress environment. Ability to maintain patient confidentiality.

This position requires a level of knowledge which is acquired through graduation from High School or equivalent. Clerical and managerial experience helpful. Knowledge and experience in computer operation. Past experience and education in medical terminology.

Working knowledge of underlying applicable principles, policies and procedures for the following entities: CDC, CMS.
