Northwest Pipe Company, a North American leader in the manufacturing of welded steel pipe, is looking for dynamic, energetic and career-minded people who can make a difference and will immediately contribute towards taking our company to the next level. We are currently seeking a Maintenance Mechanic to support our growing operations at our Portland (St John’s), Oregon facility.


 


SUMMARY OF JOB PURPOSE: 


Repairs, maintains, and performs preventive/predictive maintenance on plant equipment.  


 


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:


·       Confers with operators and observes, tests, and evaluates operation of machinery and equipment to diagnose cause of malfunction.


·       Repairs, replaces, adjusts, and aligns components of machinery and equipment.


·       Fit bearings, shafts, attach motors, and connect and align couplings and belts to precise tolerances.


·       Performs pipe fitting of both threaded and welded pipe of various sizes.


·       Fabricates replacement parts.


·       Test-run repaired machinery and equipment to verify adequacy of repairs.


·       Cleans and lubricates parts, equipment, and machinery.


·       Examines parts for defects, such as breakage or excessive wear.


·       Welds to repair broken metal parts, fabricate new parts, and assemble new equipment.


·       Records repairs and maintenance performed.


·       Rigging and overhead crane operation, lifting device use and inspection and load calculations.


·       Other duties may be assigned.


 


 


KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES:


·       Knowledge in the operation, troubleshooting and repair of hydraulic and pneumatic equipment.


·       Ability to read and/or interpret mechanical, pneumatic and hydraulic blueprints or schematics.


·       Understanding of overhead crane troubleshooting and repair.


·       Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.


·       Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions.


·       Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.


 


 


 


 


EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE 


·       High school diploma or general education degree (GED); and


·       One to three months related experience and/or training; or


·       Equivalent combination of education and experience.


 


 


PHYSICAL DEMANDS/WORK ENVIRONMENT:


·       While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; use hands to touch; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear.


·       The employee frequently is required to walk and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.


·       The employee is occasionally required to sit, climb or balance, and taste or smell.


·       The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.


·       Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.


·       While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts.


·       The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.


·       Employee must be able to work at heights of 60 feet and above the ground.
