Job Description

We are seeking an experienced Staff Accountant to join our accounting and finance team. This is a highly visible role within the company and provides the opportunity to develop a career with internal advancement. The Staff Accountant should demonstrate a strong understanding of accounting principles, technology and possess time management skills.

The Staff Accountant will be responsible for assisting with the preparation of monthly financial statements by preparing general journal entries and reconciling general ledger accounts. The successful candidate will be responsible for taking ownership of key aspects of the monthly and yearly closing processes and reporting. The Staff Accountant must be an effective communicator and possess strong follow up skills as they will be working with various levels of management and 3rd party auditors.

Primary Location: Monterey, California Headquarters Office

Responsibilities:




  • Prepare and post accounting entries to assigned general ledger accounts




  • Support accounts payable activities to assist in timeliness procurement process




  • Perform monthly complex bank reconciliations




  • Maintain detailed reconciliations of all assigned balance sheet accounts




  • Provide detailed support and explanations of all posted transactions




  • Collect pertinent information for third party audits




  • Additional ad hoc projects as business requirements change


Qualifications:




  • Associate Degree in Accounting or Finance required (Bachelor Degree preferred)




  • 2+ years experience in accounting or related field (or Bachelor Degree)




  • Demonstrated knowledge of general ledger, accounts receivable, accounts payable and related internal controls




  • Highly proficient in Excel and VBA in Excel




  • Strong written and oral communication skills




  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously




  • Strong organizational and analytical skills




  • Ability to read and understand technical forms and financial reports




  • Willingness to establish and maintain effective working relationships




  • Ability to work demanding monthly close schedule




  • Working knowledge of ERP systems (experience with Great Plains preferred)
