Position Description:


Staff in IT Engineering are responsible for researching, designing, mapping, developing, documenting, testing, and deploying new technologies in order to enhance credit union operations.  They develop and apply models, processes, tools, standards, roadmaps and methodologies to support the organization’s technical infrastructure as it relates to systems, networks, servers, endpoints, storage, databases, and telecommunications.  They ensure that new systems are implemented with adequate capacity and appropriate business continuity and disaster recovery capabilities.


 Advanced IT professional providing technical leadership in multiple areas of the organization’s technical infrastructure and effectively contributing to technology innovation.


Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities:



  • Serves as a key technical resource and expert for multiple areas of the network infrastructure.  Provides training and documentation for day-to-day support teams on network related backups, performance monitoring/tuning, proactive capacity planning, Disaster Recovery, granting user privileges/access, hardware/application/service monitoring, and patching/updating.

  • Creates technical blueprints, translating logical architecture into physical specifications.  Directs and oversees the implementation effort.

  • Troubleshoots most problems within assigned area(s), providing fault isolation and resolution that may be complicated by technology interdependency.  Analyzes cross-technology/platform issues and addresses problems factoring in an understanding of the current and future architecture. 

  • Leads the evaluation of new technologies relative to their domain(s).   Proposes technology investments supported by a thorough technical analysis and business case.

  • Serves as a leading participant in industry forums, bringing new technical information into the organization and disseminating it to appropriate IT colleagues.  

  • Specifies the monitoring points to assess performance of technologies in their domain(s).  Recommends the necessary actions to ensure optimal performance and reliability.

  • Develops disaster recovery and contingency goals for their areas of expertise.

  • Provides guidance and technical coaching to less experienced staff.

  • Provides input to RFI and RFP process related to their areas of expertise. 

  • Interacts with major providers at the technical expert level to address mission critical issues.

Minimum formal education required for this position:


Knowledge consistent with a Bachelor’s Degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or related field.


Each year of relevant work experience may be exchanged for a year in a relevant degree program or vice versa.  For example, a requirement of “Knowledge Consistent with a Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting and 2+ years’ of accounting experience” could be substituted for a High School Diploma and 6 years of relevant accounting work experience or a Master’s Degree in Accounting and 0 years of work experience.  


Minimum work experience:


8+ years’ combined experience with Network, Routing and Switching, Wireless, 802.1x, security, Disaster Recovery, Design and Architecture, Firewall, etc.


Technical or specialized knowledge/skills:



  • Must be able to function as a key resource and expert within the company for multiple technical areas. Expert in implementing efficient procedures for backups, performance monitoring/tuning, Disaster Recovery, granting user privileges/access, hardware/application/service monitoring, and patching/updating.

  • Strong understanding of IT systems/data security as it relates to financial institutions or other industries that must comply with federal regulations.

  • Ability to apply seasoned expertise in multiple technologies to address interoperability issues.

  • Must demonstrate a good understanding of new technologies and their applicability relative to assigned domain(s).

  • Must demonstrate a strong understanding of the current and future technology architecture, including the inter-operability of technologies.

  • Ability to provide guidance and training to other IT colleagues in their areas of expertise.

  • Understands business trends, strategies and the direction technology must take to support the business.

  • Strong communication skills (written, verbal, and listening) with specific ability to translate technical details to a non-technical audience.

  • Excellent analytical skills.

  • Proficiency with Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Microsoft Project, and Visio.

  • Document necessary field information (drop down, free form, type info needed, field restrictions). Identifies, assesses, and manages resolution of issues.

  • Expert knowledge of Cisco routers and switches.

  • Intermediate experience with Aruba Wireless.

  • Intermediate experience with Network design.

  • Novice experience with Firewall configuration.

  • Develop business case for improvements and present business case to client executives to seek buy-in.

  • Design and implement solutions based on industry leading practices, conducting design workshops and formulating solutions that can be implemented to achieve desired business results.

  • Performing assessment of company assets and help clients develop and improvement roadmap.

  • Apply advanced analytics to determine improvement opportunities and enable business decisions.

  • (Preferred) Working Knowledge of 802.1x

Certifications required:



  • None required, however technical certifications, project / process certifications are valuable.

  • (Recommended) At least one of the following:

    • CCNA

    • CCIE

    • CompTIA Sec+



Environmental, physical and psychological requirements: 



  • Must be able to sit or stand for prolonged periods of time in a climate-controlled environment. Must be able to use fingers, hands, wrists for repetitive tasks such as typing, using a mouse, handling paper, and operating a telephone.   Demands for visual and auditory acuity are typical of an office environment.  Must be able to interact via email, telephone, or in person with diplomacy, tact, and courtesy with all members under varying circumstances.  Must be able to lift up to 40 lbs.

Salary range for this position: $89,065.60-$133,577.60 (This position is eligible for an annual corporate bonus based upon performance)
