Job Description:

WTVR, the E.W. Scripps owned CBS affiliate in Richmond, Virginia is looking for an experienced Executive Producer to join our team.

The Executive Producer must be a proven newsroom leader who knows how to win breaking news and weather coverage on all platforms, maintain a strong sense of urgency with our newscast production and newsroom culture, and knows how to balance serious journalism with lighter moments critical to the success of our newscasts. The successful candidate will have overall responsibility for newscasts or local programs, including oversight on story selection, content, and production, ensuring that the station is competitive within the market.

This position will involve training and mentoring younger journalists while also collaborating with some of the most experienced television news personalities in the market.

WHAT YOU'LL DO:


  • Responsible for managing newscasts or local program content and showcasing across multiple platforms.


  • Oversee newscasts, including oversight on story selection, content, and production.


  • Collaborate with editors, producers and/or the assignment desk to select stories for coverage.


  • Oversee and edit the writing of content, including but not limited to teases and web headlines.


  • Develop and supervise effective workflow strategies and procedures for multiple programs.


  • Provide regular feedback on newscast with staff, both as a team and individually.


  • Supervise pre-production to ensure quality and ethical standards and coordination between control Room and design staff.


  • Book segments and guests.


  • Plan special event coverage.


  • Step in to write and produce as needed.


  • Rotate as weekend on-call manager with other newsroom managers.


  • Provide regular feedback on newscast with staff, both as a team and individually.


  • Coordinate schedules with News Director, Assistant News Director, and other news department managers.


  • Assist in recruiting and hiring


WHAT YOU'LL BRING:


  • Bachelor's degree in journalism, communication or related field preferred.


  • 3 years previous new producing experience preferred.


WHAT YOU'LL NEED:


  • Supervisory experience highly preferred.


  • Demonstrated ability to track and select trending news stories.


  • Strong organizational skills.


  • Ability to work in a rapid, fast-paced environment.


  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.


  • Must be able to work a flexible schedule, including nights, weekends and holidays.


  • Knowledge and demonstration of editorial judgment, journalistic ethics and libel laws.


  • Ability to create tactics and strategies to increase demo performance in key target areas for multiple platforms.


  • Have working knowledge of federal, state and local laws impacting operations.
