The Business Analyst acts as the primary interface to Samuel’s business to collect and document requirements and generate business cases, defining costs and benefits of a demand prior to being approved and included in the project portfolio. This role formulates and defines systems scope and objectives based on both user needs and good understanding of applicable business systems.
The Business Analyst is competent to work independently and at the highest technical level of most phases of systems analysis while considering the business implication of the application technology to the current and future business environment.
The Business Analyst is responsible to perform analysis of business user needs, understanding and documenting requirements, current and future state processes, and translating into proper system requirements specifications.
The Business Analyst will utilize broad IT knowledge and their knowledge of the Samuel Business to implement IT solutions that reflect the functionality necessary to address business goals and objectives.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Participates in the implementation of Business Transformation Initiatives.
Collaborates with Executive Stakeholders to prepare and present business case and/or project proposals, including financial analysis, cost estimates, terms of reference and cost/benefit studies of each solution option
Analyzes business processes and synthesizes complex information into concise, readable, unambiguous process models and process documentation.
Assesses current policies, programs or services and applies a variety of analytic processes and techniques to identify opportunities for improvement.
Facilitates and lead in-depth workshops to elicit review and confirm business requirements, business process re-engineering, data and workflows, business models, business rules and user interface designs
Collaborates with product teams to decompose large epic stories into features and user stories that can be understood by business leads and developers
Conducts analysis to assess the Division's data and, system requirements and develops and presents effective concepts, designs, and templates.
Prepares, or contributes to technology solution artefacts including product visions, use cases, use case models, and supplementary specifications including screen mock-ups, report mock-ups and business rules specifications.
Develops test strategies, plans and scripts and executes and documents tests of technology solutions and business processes and validation of applications.
Prepares reports to senior management, supporting recommendations on changes in technology solutions, business methods and business processes including appropriate staffing levels, resource allocation, etc.
Provide project planning input, leadership and functional expertise for the development, testing and implementation of business systems, identify potential implementation issues, and make recommendations to fully address all implementation issues
Provide input to HR Training & Learning team to support development of training materials for end users
Liaise with 3rd party vendors as required to support implementations
QUALIFICATIONS:
Post secondary education in Information Technology or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Certified Business Analysis Professional (CBAP) an asset
Certified Associate Project Management (CAPM) an asset
ITIL Foundations an asset
At least 2 years of experience working in the metals industry and/or the manufacturing space is considered an asset
5+ years of experience conducting Business Process Reviews, Business Process Modelling (BPM) and Business Process Reengineering
5+ years of experience documenting user requirements, producing use cases, documenting user stories and corresponding acceptance criteria, utilizing facilitation and consensus building skills
Hands on experience and/or knowledge of one or more of the following ERP considered an asset: Microsoft Dynamics Ax, Vantage, Metalware/AS400, EPIC, SYSPRO, Made2Manage, E2 Manufacturing system
Ability to work collaboratively in cross-functional teams, set clear directions and design terms of reference and work processes
Highly developed interpersonal skills including written and oral communication skills, with the ability to interact and communicate effectively with Senior Stakeholders
Strong business acumen and understanding of various business disciplines (finance, operations, technical etc.)
Knowledge of software development lifecycle (SDLC)
Modelling notation (ie UML, Structured, BPMN)
Proficient in writing unambiguous, verified requirements to a testable level (functional and non-functional requirements)
