As we grow, we are seeking an experienced Professional Land Surveyor to join our team in Woolpert’s Cincinnati, OH office.


The Professional Land Surveyor (PLS) will be responsible for performing advanced surveying work in a predominately office role. This individual will be expected to assist with the mentoring and coaching of survey staff, including boundary determination, survey hardware/software problem solving, pricing/scoping, quality assurance and quality control of surveying procedures, adherence to DOT and municipal procedures, promoting active communication with other team members, and crew scheduling. In addition, the PLS will be capable of demonstrating proper use of survey hardware and software to junior staff members. The PLS is expected to have foundational knowledge of topographic, control/geodetic, construction staking, boundary/ROW, and ALTA surveying, with additional experience in photo/LiDAR control and terrestrial/mobile scanning preferred. Furthermore, this individual will be expected to provide communications with the survey team leader and discipline leadership, market project managers, and review final deliverables where appropriate. As the individual settles into this role, training opportunities will be provided to learn additional procedures.


Responsibilities:



  • Performs analysis for difficult/complex boundary surveys and prepares associated plats and boundary descriptions.

  • Performs advanced calculations involving field survey data.

  • Reviews and performs quality control of final AutoCAD Civil 3D and Bentley Open Roads Designer deliverables.

  • Assists with the preparation of road right-of-way plans and conducts QA/QC on said plans.

  • Prepares or reviews survey reports and property legal descriptions.

  • Performs research and interpretation of government files, utilities and public records documents.

  • Prepares scopes of work and estimates for survey projects.

  • Works with survey team leader to perform project assignments and assists in developing the skills of other survey personnel.

  • Responsible for development of project quality control and quality assurance processes.

  • Keeps accurate notes, records, and sketches to describe and certify results of surveys produced.

  • Provides technical expertise and leadership in the project definition and planning phases.

  • Develops and documents standard practices and coaches and mentors other team members in skill development areas.

  • Acts as technical expertise and representative of the firm at various functions, as needed.


Requirements:



  • Must have a BA/BS and four (4) years related experience, MA/MS and two (2) years related experience or 8 (eight) years related experience.

  • Must have and maintain a satisfactory driving record.

  • Must successfully pass periodic drug testing as required by company policy.

  • Must be able to work with mathematical concepts appropriate for surveying (survey data reduction including level data, traverse data, and GNSS data)

  • Must be able to occasionally lift and move more than 100 pounds.

  • Must be able to occasionally travel overnight and work overtime as needed.

  • Must have above average verbal and written communication skills for both internal and external relationships.

  • Must be capable of performing basic functions in Civil 3D and Open Roads Designer, including the ability to perform QA/QC on deliverables.
