Bio-Rad is looking for an EH&S Manager I to oversee all environmental health and safety (EHS) activities/requirements within the Northern California region. This includes EHS compliance, incident response and coordination, direction of assigned safety specialists in providing auditing and internal consulting support to management, acting as the primary resource for site safety, health and environmental issues within the region, managing environmental remediation projects, and coordinating systems/issues with management.
Responsibilities
Provides strategic and tactical direction for maintaining EH&S compliance and continual improvement related to exposure reduction, program development, distribution, implementation, and training.
Develops and mentors direct reports and management in EH&S.
Develops health and safety policies and procedures, including those pertaining to hazardous materials and work areas.
Responsible for setting, managing, and communicating EH&S goals.
Coordinates injury prevention and accident investigation activities.
Coordinates inspections to ensure compliance with regulations, policies, and programs.
Responsible for emergency planning and response, including spill and transportation of dangerous goods.
Manages hazardous waste generation, worker safety, clean air permitting and monitoring, laser safety, radiation safety, waste water monitoring, blood-borne pathogens, ergonomics, product material safety data sheets, hazardous materials storage, environmental remediation, and dangerous goods transportation.
Acts as division liaison with EH&S-related regulatory agencies, including coordination of inspections, corrective actions and reporting, including OSHA reporting, business plans.
Provides management feedback and recommendations regarding EH&S issues and controls, program status.
Coordinates workers compensation activities for claims tracking and closure.
During a crisis, acts as primary incident commander.
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree or equivalent in a technical field, including EH&S, ergonomics, biology, chemistry, or engineering.
10+ years EH&S experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.
7+ years supervisory/management experience preferred.
Safety related certification desirable (CSP, CIH).
Experience with regulatory agencies, including reporting requirements, inspections, and permit processes.
Experience in risk management for control and mitigation of ergonomic exposures, hazardous materials response, and training.
Strong interpersonal communication skills, including training and managing of groups.
Ability to effectively manage interdepartmental changes and improvements without direct line authority.
Strong verbal and written communication skills, including documentation of activities in memorandums to ensure compliance.
Intermediate knowledge of EH&S regulations (Cal-OSHA, EPA, AQMD) for program implementation and management.
Strong project management skills.
