If you are an Engineering professional that likes to push products to their limits, Emerson has an exciting career growth opportunity for you!   As a key member of the Engineering product development and certification organization, you will oversee product testing and test systems that ensure Appleton’s products are the toughest, most reliable, and safest in the global heavy industrial and hazardous electrical products industry.  Based in our Skokie, Illinois test facility and reporting to the Director of Engineering, you will supervise testing activity, oversee test systems, and drive continuous facility improvement.  With the ever-broadening technology profile of Appleton’s products, you will identify and establish the new testing methods and test technology needed to ensure every new product launched into the market is worthy Appleton’s century long brand history and Emerson’s name on the label. AS A SENIOR TEST ENGINEER, YOU WILL:


  • Guide and conduct electrical and environmental tests in accordance with recognized global standards bodies such as IEEE, NEC, IEC, and NEMA
  • Maintain and build lab 3rd party accreditations for the IEC17025 approved facility
  • Oversee laboratory test methods, equipment, and facilities to ensure a safe work environment
  • Perform enclosure performance tests verifying explosion, high pressure, water and dust penetration, and thermal performance
  • Conduct switching, short circuit, and overload testing on electrical connector and distribution panel systems
  • Guide performance, certification, and reliability testing for industrial automation power supplies and advanced LED lighting solutions
  • Manage workloads, prepare test reports, and track test status for the technician team
  • Coordinate test method standardization and enhancements across Appleton’s global laboratory facilities
  • Support defining the strategic direction and identification of test systems automation for improving lab productivity and test result repeatability

REQUIRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE & SKILLS:


  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering
  • 5 years related product test work experience within an engineering development organization
  • Demonstrated Hands on experience with use and application of test instrumentation, tools, environmental chambers, and lab facilities
  • Experience with implementing and program test automation systems
  • Proven ability to develop and follow procedures and work instructions in a testing environment
  • Capability to understand and interprate operating panels and warning indicators
  • Ability to lift 40 pound boxes and products being evaluated within the lab facility and in completion of testing activities.
  • Availability to travel up to 20% of the time
  • Legal authorization to work in the United States

 


PREFERRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE & SKILLS:  

  • Experience with hazardous location certified product testing to IEC 60079 and related NEC standards
  • Experience defining, implementing, and maintaining test automation systems
  • Working familiarity implementing product reliability test programs applying HALT, HASS, Weibull analysis
