  • Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Must obey and adhere to all vehicle road laws and vehicle operation restrictions.

  • 5 or more years of verifiable experience transporting structural steel product and flatbed structural steel tie down techniques.

  • Ability to operate both electronic and manual logbook and knowledge of HOS rules and requirements. (Omni-Trac)

  • Ability to read and understand Shipping & Receiving Documents and identify and locate material with these documents.

  • Must have of knowledge of various types of steel used in steel fabrications and their nomenclature.

  • Ability to load and unload various steel assemblies and structures on and off trucks and trailers via forklift or overhead crane without causing damage to equipment and material and injury to personnel.

  • Assist to identify material that may pose a problem to galvanize process to expedite customer notification and production.

  • Ability to coordinate the loading of their vehicle at customer yard to allow for safe transport to Calwest yard.

  • Ability to operate crane systems. (Optional)

  • Must be forklift certified.

  • Must assist in keeping yard area organized and debris free at all times, and avoid waste of time and materials at all times.

  • Must participate in mandated DOT random drug screen program.

  • Perform daily and periodic scheduled inspections of forklift and assigned vehicle.

  • Ensure straps, chains, binder inspections are complete during every use and serviceability of these items are verified prior to their use. Must have knowledge of when and how to use such equipment.

  • Communicate effectively to personnel working under his direction, and to his Supervisor. Coordinate with Customers, Supervisors, Yard Persons, and Lead Persons to ensure maximum production in all areas of operations.

  • Must be registered and give company authorization to do background in the DOT Clearinghouse process.

  • Must maintain an excellent rapport with customers during visits.

  • Must keep assigned vehicle clean and orderly both inside and out.

  • Must use the safest and expeditious route for all assigned runs.

  • Must be able to use Visual Truck system.

  • Assist in other duties as required. Responsible for own supervision while on the road. Must drive with integrity, safety, and with company's best interest in mind.

Physical Demands: Standing, bending, walking, twisting, stooping, climbing, lifting up to 50 lbs., reaching, communication via 2-way radio and hand and arm signals, driving, kneeling, sweeping and shoveling.

Safety Responsibilities: Actively participates in department safety; demonstrates excellent safety practices and behaviors and conforms to all Valmont safety policies and procedures.

This position is in a manufacturing environment with moving industrial equipment, heavy product materials and hot chemical and metal solutions, which could potentially cause serious injury if a momentary lapse in attention occurs. For this reason, this position is considered a "safety sensitive" position and is therefore subject to the Valmont Random Drug Screening Policy provisions.

Environmental Responsibilities: This employee has a responsibility to generally know site chemical hazards and general site emergency procedures to include notification and evacuation routing and signals. The employee must be familiar with the site emergency or release response plan, and understand the principles of hazard communication, basic spill response, storm water pollution prevention practices, and basic hazardous waste management procedures for satellite and long term waste accumulation points. The employee must properly perform additional waste management functions as specifically assigned.
