The Doe Run Company is seeking a Safety Specialist to assist in developing, implementation and monitoring Doe Run’s safety programs. This will include compliance with federal, state and local safety and health regulations, safety inspections, accident investigations and safety training. This position will be located at one of our six mine sites in the Viburnum, MO area.

Viburnum is located in the Mark Twain National Forest with thousands of acres of natural beauty and hundreds miles of pristine rivers. If you love the outdoors, come join our team!

Responsibilities:


  • Train employees to comply with federal and state safety regulations through classroom sessions and safety meetings and individualized counseling.

  • Advise and provide guidance to company management and employees regarding mandatory health and safety standards and safety protocols and procedures to ensure regulatory compliance as mandated by local, state, and federal agencies; including the Mine Safety and Health Administration (MSHA); Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), and Missouri Mine and Cave Safety Division.

  • Conduct safety audits and inspect work areas for non-compliance; document any issues and provide guidance on appropriate resolutions and recommend disciplinary action if required.

  • Respond to emergency situations and conduct accident investigations wherein root cause are identified and resolutions are recommended

  • Initiate workers' compensation cases and conduct accident investigations by reviewing causes and resolutions.

  • Accompany federal and state inspectors through mine property and assist with follow-up on their recommendations and feedback.

  • Perform health and safety sampling, prepare mine safety reports, and gather information monthly and quarterly.

  • Analyze accident and incident reports for trends; make recommendations for correcting unsafe conditions an actions

  • Other duties as assigned.

Education & Experience


  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in facilitating a safety program preferred.

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.

  • Bachelor's Degree in Occupational Health and Safety preferred.

  • MSHA certification preferred.

  • MSHA certified trainer preferred.

  • Valid, current driver's license.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:


  • Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Office Suite, ERP and financial systems.

  • Ability to effectively communicate safety instructions and concerns to employees and management.

  • Working knowledge of mine property and procedures.

  • Knowledge of federal, state and local safety regulations, protocols, and/or procedures.

  • Ability to investigate and analyze information and draw conclusions.

  • This position is on-call, and may have evening and weekend work.

Work Environment & Physical Requirements:


  • Regularly required to work underground and near moving mechanical parts. Frequently exposed to outdoor weather conditions and wet, humid, hot, or cold (non-weather) conditions. May be exposed to moderate noise levels.

  • Regularly required to sit, stand, and walk for extended periods of time, talk and hear; occasionally required to use repetitive motion and reach with hands/arms. Requires clarity of vision and three-dimensional vision.

  • Occasionally required to lift up to 25 pounds.
