Job Description:

Our job is to ensure that AT&T Network Engineering and Operations has the system-enabled capabilities to manage the AT&T network and services provisioned on the network. Our work ranges from decomposing, refactoring, re-architecting, modernizing and transformation older systems that are still needed to manage the network to ideating and building new applications to manage virtualized and containerized network functions as efficiently as possible. With software defined networking and virtualization, the game is changing.  Bright, self-motivated, skilled candidates will have the ability to establish their own boundaries and sphere of influence.

As a member of the Network Services team the Professional – Software Engineer will engage in all phases of software development and leverage their creativity and expertise to modernize, transform and create applications using contemporary best practices for software development with an eye towards high availability, resiliency, reliability and security and deployment to a public cloud.   The job is not prescriptive in nature and the candidate will need to rely on their experience, knowledge of the business, knowledge of the software industry, and interactions with clients and peers to guide them. There are opportunities to explore AI/ML and other technologies and work with client organizations to identify appropriate use cases.

Minimum

• Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university in the field of computer engineering, computer science, electrical engineering or closely related field of study
• 3-5 years of recent experience with software development and the development of large-scale computer applications as a member of a large team through all phases of the software development life cycle
• High-level understanding of the AT&T network and its breadth of technologies comprising it
• Ability to resolve ambiguity
• Good communication skills – both written and verbal

Preferred

• Software development experience with web technologies and GUIs
• Development experience with Unix/Linux, Java, Python, Kafka, Camel, Karaf
• Experience working with Web Technologies: Node/Angular.js, REACT, Tomcat, JBOSS
• Experience with CodeCloud (Git/Bitbucket), Jenkins, Jira, microservice design patterns and CICD
• Ability to define and configure the computing environment and deploy software applications into the environment, particularly a cloud environment
• Ability to interact and work effectively at least two layers of management above position
