AMETEK PDS is searching for a VP/Business Unit Manager to lead the PDS Business Unit, a part of the Aerospace & Defense division. PDS is a trusted OEM supplier of components and systems for power generation and distribution, motion control, data acquisition, and cockpit instruments for the aerospace and defense industry. Our 80+ years of aerospace experience dates to the early days of aviation where we provided the Oil Pressure Indicator used on The Spirit of St. Louis, which recorded the first non-stop transatlantic flight. We are experts in the design and development of complex aircraft systems. From the early days of aviation to the latest in aerospace technology, AMETEK PDS has been providing our customers with cutting-edge custom engineering solutions at the highest level of quality and service in the industry. PDS designs, manufactures and provides aftermarket services for starter generators, generator control units, motors, actuators, solid state power distribution systems & components, data acquisition and indicators for the commercial/military aerospace and ground vehicle markets. We currently have facilities in four locations: Wichita, Kansas; Harleysville, Pennsylvania; Binghamton, New York; and Bangalore, India.

POSITION SUMMARY
PDS is looking for a strong VP/Business Unit Manager to lead and manage the business unit.
The incumbent can be based in the Harleysville, PA or Binghamton, NY area, and will be responsible for overall profit and loss for the PDS Business Unit. He/she will provide tactical and strategic guidance and be responsible for developing and implementing the Business Unit’s Strategic Plan with an emphasis on AMETEK’s four-pronged growth strategy promoting continuous improvement, new product development, global and market expansion, and mergers and acquisitions. This is a great opportunity for a leader to oversee multiple facilities and to take a successful business to the next level. The business unit facilities are located in Binghamton, NY, Harleysville, PA, Wichita, KS and Reynosa, Mexico with additional engineering resources in India.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
• Responsible for all sales, marketing, engineering, customer service, aftermarket, operations, supply chain/materials, quality, finance, acquisition, forecasting and strategic planning activities.
• Overall profit and loss responsibility for the PDS Business Unit (BU) across the facility locations.
• Responsible for operating performance, e.g. sales, profit, working capital, on-time delivery, planning, scheduling, materials management, etc.
• Improve the product development process by incorporating design for six sigma, improving project management, etc.
• Manage day-to-day tactical and long-term strategic activities within the business
• Improve factory performance by executing lean manufacturing initiatives such as Kanban, SIOP, 5S, and Kaizen while maintaining focus on Quality improvements.
• Responsible for meeting financial commitments, providing the resources necessary to grow and/or taking the necessary actions to cut costs.

Position Requirements:
EDUCATION
• Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering required (Mechanical or Electrical)
• Master’s Degree or MBA strongly preferred

EXPERIENCE / QUALIFICATIONS

• Minimum 15 years progressive management experience; minimum 7 years in a senior level role with direct P&L responsibility
• Prior experience working in the Aerospace & Defense industry required
• The ideal candidate will have managed a business with revenues of at least $40M
• Strong analytical thinking, problem solving skills and communications skills (both written and oral) with attention to detail
• Proven ability to successfully handle multiple projects and meet critical deadlines
• Must be a team player with excellent interpersonal skills and a commitment to relationship-building, both internally and externally
• Must be self-directed and be able to work well under pressure, multi-task, and meet deadlines
• A solid track record of success leading engineering and operations
• Familiarity with the manufacturing of low volume, high mix (engineered) products.
• Candidates must have proven strategic planning skills; conducted competitive analysis, developed marketing plans, pricing strategies, etc. Experience evaluating and making acquisitions would be a plus.
• From an operations perspective, exposure to best practices, e.g. lean manufacturing, continuous improvement, JIT etc. is necessary in achieving operational excellence.
• Strong customer relations skills
• Firm understanding of Lean Manufacturing
• It’s imperative that candidates have a strong financial acumen and have worked for a publicly traded company continuously pressured to lower costs while improving performance.
• Effective strategic leadership skills and executive attributes
• Excellent organization and project management skills
• Strong statistical analysis ability
• Outstanding written and oral communication skills
• The right person will be flexible who wants to learn and grow professionally
• Very strong computer skills are a must, to include: Word, Excel, PowerPoint

• Ability to effectively communicate ideas and thoughts to people at all levels of the organization, establishing credibility with management and employees throughout the supported population, particularly at the executive management level
• Demonstrated ability to work and communicate in a concise manner with all levels, including senior internal/external clients
• Ability to anticipate, set, and manage priorities, resources, goals, and projects
