Job Description:

Experience and Education


  • Bachelor's degree in business, healthcare administration, or a related field, and eight (8) years related project management or business operations experience, to include at least four (4) years managing medium size, cross-functional projects in a healthcare or academic environment required.

  • Equivalent related experience may be used in lieu of degree.

  • PMP or Six Sigma certification and Masters' degree strongly preferred.

Job Duties

This position works under minimal supervision to direct the operations of Harold C. Simmons Cancer Center (SCCC) programs or projects, exercising independent judgment and authority as required.


  • Manage multiple related projects within the project portfolio or assigned areas that are managed toward common strategic business objectives.

  • Define project scope, goals and deliverables that support business goals in collaboration with Simmons Cancer Center leadership; develop project plans, timelines and associated communications documents; clearly and timely communicate project expectations to team members and management.

  • Oversee constituent Project Managers to monitor cost, schedules, and strategic alignment with business objectives.

  • Liaise with program/project stakeholders and manage customer relationships. Set and continually manage project expectations with team members and key stakeholders. Delegate tasks and responsibilities to appropriate personnel. Identify and resolve issues within project teams.

  • Oversee project quality and status for all assigned projects. Estimate resources and participants needed to achieve project goals. Draft and submit budget proposals and recommend budgetary changes when necessary.

  • Collaborate with other department managers to obtain required personnel from within the institution. Assess needs for additional staff and/or consultants and take necessary steps to recruit personnel during project cycles.

  • Determine frequency and content of status reports from project teams, analyze results, and troubleshoot problem areas. Proactively manage changes in project scope, identify potential issues that may arise with those changes, and develop appropriate contingency plans.

  • Develop and cultivate necessary business relationships vital to the success of the project.

  • Develop best practices and tools for execution and management for multi-armed and related projects.

  • May supervise staff in performance of duties.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.
