Job Summary

The Associate Director, MSL Training and Operation role will, with a highly effective level of proficiency, strategically identify, develop and maintain all MSL & Medical Affairs training materials as they relate to Eisai's marketed Neurology or Oncology products, pipeline agents and competitors. The candidate in this position will demonstrate a thorough understanding of the US MSL training needs as they relate to Eisai's strategic medical plan. The position will provide presentations / training sessions and enter into strategic and compliant discussions as it relates to medical/clinical, health economics and outcomes research data on Eisai neurology or oncology products with US medical science liaisons, medical affairs managers, medical directors and other medical affairs personnel. The candidate will assume a leadership role by assisting NBG or OBG MSL management with various projects and by teaching, coaching and mentoring less experienced MSLs in order to assist with their development. This role will create an environment of accountability by communicating expectations, timelines and disseminating information for scientific training.

The impact this role will have on the organization includes the following:

a) as a leader within the MSL organization, the MSL Training & Operations Lead will communicate key information about Eisai and its hhc mission to key stakeholders and the MSL team, as well as demonstrate a strong medical strategic understanding and business acumen;

b) effectively communicate relevant & fair balanced scientific and clinical information about Eisai's products; seek feedback from MSLs, MSL Management and Medical Affairs management to ensure needs are being met; leverage a variety of communication channels to provide training to a variety of adult learning styles; and

c) consistently support senior management decisions and mentors/trains colleagues and new hires to think strategically in an effort to support decisions made by senior management.

Essential Functions


  • Work closely with MSLs, MSL Management, Medical Directors to determine strategic importance of medical data related to neurology or oncology areas presented at congresses / medical meetings in an effort to create highlights and executive summaries for distribution & training. 10%

  • Work closely with MSL management & MSL leads to maintain and update all PMRC / CRC Approved MSL slide decks required for scientific exchange and answering unsolicited questions, as well as, producing monthly insight reports. 20%

  • Manage and maintain all MSL data (PMRC / CRC Approved Slide decks), training materials, journal articles, meeting summaries etc. in medical database (e.g. EPIC) 10% Create and execute MSL Training plan with all new hires as well as entire MSL team. Teaching, coaching & mentoring new hires as well as all MSLs / Medical Affairs professionals; assisting with performance evaluation feedback (on an Ad Hoc basis) and overseeing special projects. 25%

  • Oversee the development and necessary approval (CRC, PMRC requirements) of all new MSL & Medical Affairs training materials on Eisai's marketed neurology or oncology products / pipeline products / disease states, and competitors including making presentations, and leading live / virtual training sessions 25%

  • When necessary, travel to Medical Conferences, US & International, MSL training and Sales training meetings. 10%

  • Will be based out of NJ with ability to travel up to 50-60% of the time (US). While not traveling, expect to work least 3 days per week out in the 100 Tice Blvd office. 10%

Requirements


  • Advanced terminal degree (MD, PharmD, PhD,) in medical/biosciences.

  • Minimum of 2-3 years of disease management knowledge in the therapeutic area of interest to Eisai or a related therapeutic area.

  • Minimum of 5 years MSL experience.

  • Strong broad based scientific and pharmaceutical knowledge, as well as, excellent presentation, mentoring and teaching skills.

  • Strong overall written and verbal communication skills.

  • Desirable to have thorough knowledge and experience within Eisai desired therapeutic area(s) of either neurology or oncology; comfortable and confident speaking about multiple drug indications/disease state management and competitor products and data.

  • Thorough understanding of the pharmaceutical corporate environment and appreciation for Commercial Operations including Marketing and Sales strategic interests.

  • Understanding and able to effectively communicate the role and contributions provided by US Medical Science Liaisons and Medical & Scientific Affairs.

  • Ability to motivate and teach team members without a direct reporting relationship.

  • Demonstrated ability to think critically, analyze situations and achieve goals.

  • Excellent computer skills including power point, word & excel.

  • Ability to safely and successfully operate a motor vehicle is required
