ESSENTIAL FUNCTION:  Laborers perform tasks involving physical labor at construction sites, which may include but are not limited to operating hand / power tools, cleaning / maintaining projects, and assisting other craft workers.

 

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBLITIES:

Laborers can be tasked to perform any of the following on Leopardo projects:


  1. Cleanup and procurement

    1. Sweep

    2. Pick up debris

    3. Transport tools, equipment, and materials (via hand, cart, hand trucks, etc.)

    4. Assist Carpenters with moving and lifting materials into place

    5. Assemble and disassemble scaffold systems

    6. Load and unload trucks, gondolas, etc.

    7. Wash vehicles/equipment

    8. Scrape floors

    9. Site cleanup and material/equipment organization

    10. Manage site conditions/fencing/roads (e.g. mud cleanup)

    11. Final cleanup (mop, dust, wipe down furniture, sweep, vacuum, etc.)

    12. Sort and organize various equipment, materials, etc.



  2. Barricades and occupied space protection

    1. Install and remove barricades, fence panels, containment, gates, etc.

    2. Set up road and interior signage

    3. Communication with flaggers

    4. Erect interior plastic partitions and mobile containment units

    5. Place floor protection

      1. Install ram board, plastic, etc. over walking surfaces

      2. Install walk-off and sticky mats
        1. Keep these wet throughout the day




    6. Negative air

      1. Check doors for negative air

      2. Create negative air
        1. Move and install HEPA machines, fans, the associated hoses, etc.




    7. Fire protection

      1. Guard/identify fire protection systems (e.g. sprinkler cages, cover smokes)

      2. Seal penetrations (e.g. holes/gaps in walls, floors, etc.)
        1. Install caulk, foam, and other related products






  3. Flagging and signaling

    1. Control the flow of vehicular/pedestrian traffic via stop/slow paddle or flag

    2. Count cars/deliveries/trucks

    3. Keep entrances/walkways clean

    4. Maintain entrance gates

    5. Provide signals to a crane / equipment operator (via hard line, hand, etc.)

    6. Assist with rigging of items to be picked by crane



  4. Demolition

    1. Identify existing structures, utilities, etc. (e.g. spray paint)

    2. Chipping/Bushing/Jack hammering Concrete

    3. Removing and disposing of

      1. Masonry Walls

      2. Drywall Partitions

      3. Flooring

      4. Ceilings

      5. MEP Systems via cutting, burning, etc.



    4. Eliminate dust by wetting demo materials



  5. Winter-related work

    1. Snow-shoveling, snow-blowing, etc.

    2. De-icing (e.g. salting pathways, scraping ice)

    3. Maintaining heaters

      1. Moving heaters and fans

      2. Moving and hanging hoses

      3. Checking air quality





  6. Fall protection

    1. Maintaining perimeter fall protection (e.g. tightening cables)

    2. Safety Monitor



  7. Water removal
    1. Set up pumps, hoses, etc.


  8. Hot work
    1. Fire watch


  9. Concrete

    1. Excavation

      1. Dig footings, culverts, etc.

      2. Fine grade fills

      3. Water removal
        1. Set up pumps, hoses, etc.




    2. Layout

      1. Load and unload delivery trucks

      2. Assist with setting equipment

      3. Shooting grades

      4. Grout anchor bolts



    3. Formwork

      1. Handle and transport formwork to assist carpenters

      2. Strip (remove) formwork

      3. Clean formwork



    4. Concrete placement
      1. Place concrete into formwork (e.g. decks, columns, walls, etc.)

        1. Manage and clean the concrete bucket

        2. Set up, manage, and clean the concrete hose

        3. Deliver concrete to the pour area via mobile equipment, wheel barrow, etc.




    5. Vibrate concrete placement

    6. Grade concrete (e.g. slab-on-grade)



  10. Tools

    1. Light-scale maintenance of tools such as fans, pumps, etc.

    2. Replace parts that are worn or broken



Supervisory Requirements: This job has no supervisory responsibilities.

Education / Experience Requirements:  High school diploma or equivalent. Must be a union laborer in good standing with the union.

Physical Demands: 

Representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. The employee is consistently required to talk or hear.  The employee is occasionally required to sit.  The employee is frequently required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle or feel; reach with hands and arms, and, stop, kneel, crouch or crawl.  The employee must frequently lift and /or move materials of varying size and weight.  Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.  The employee must have the ability to travel when required.

Work Environment:

Representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. 


  1. Location varies between indoor and outdoor settings.

  2. Temperatures generally vary with and correspond to the weather.

  3. Lighting varies from outdoor sunlight to interior lights.

  4. Room and material dimensions vary from large, open spaces to confined spaces with some movement restrictions.

  5. Walking / working surfaces can include:

    1. Various outdoor conditions (e.g. graded and un-graded areas, excavations, sidewalks)

    2. Form-work and rebar mats of varying size and shape

    3. Plywood, ramps, and other man-made walking surfaces

    4. Finished floors (e.g. concrete, carpet, tile)

    5. Protected floors (e.g. plastic-covered floors, plywood, Ram board)

    6. Roofs

    7. Ladders

    8. Equipment/machinery (e.g. aerial lifts)

    9. Scaffolds (usually plank-type surfaces)



  6. Equipment used can include:

    1. Hard hats (worn 100% of the time)

    2. Radios (e.g. walkie-talkies)

    3. Long pants, shirt

    4. Leather work boots

    5. Occasional specialty Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and other specialty items:

      1. Safety glasses, face shields

      2. Ear plugs, muffs

      3. Dust masks, respirators

      4. Full-body harness

      5. Gloves, Tyvek suits

      6. Fire extinguishers





  7. Tools and equipment can include:

    1. Hand tools - hammers, chisels, pry bars, etc.

    2. Power tools - drills, saws, grinders, etc.

    3. Compressed air / Powder actuated tools - e.g. nail guns

    4. Concrete-specific tools - vibrators, backpack blowers, etc.

    5. Mechanical-moving devices - wheel barrows, gondolas, carts, hand trucks, etc.
