PLC Technician - Greenville at United States Gypsum Company in Greenville, Mississippi

Job Description:

POSITION SUMMARY:

Responsible for design and implementation of control solutions geared towards process improvement at the plant facility.  Performs PLC program development, testing, and maintenance in support of a project, a particular manufacturing process, or overall plant function as assigned.  Activities may include troubleshooting, design, analysis, and programming of manufacturing equipment.  They will be responsible for following company guidelines on safety, reliability, efficiency, code compliance and version control in the execution of their assignments. Will work closely with the corporate process control group to ensure optimization and standardization of plant process control systems.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Must know and follow all plant, departmental and job safety rules. Responsible to conduct yourself in a manner consistent with company values, code of conduct, policies and other standards.


2. Must know, understand and demonstrate a thorough knowledge of and follow all applicable safe operating procedures and rules including housekeeping requirements.


3. Employee must comply with Work Order system by properly accounting for their work hours, properly filling out W/O feedback forms and communicating all deviations to their supervisor.


4. Must be able to read, write and perform advanced mathematical skills.


5. Demonstrate the ability to read, interpret, and understand control concepts working from basic electrical schematics, blueprints, and ladder logic diagrams.


6. Demonstrate satisfactory troubleshooting skills and techniques as related to controls/programming aspect of all equipment.


7. Demonstrate satisfactory knowledge of at least one of the following PLC Systems: (List systems at plant, for example: Siemens, GE Fanuc, Allen Bradley).


8. Follow programming standards and maintain version control of changes to PLC programs.


9. Demonstrates a general knowledge of plant process network architecture structure and PLC equipment.


10. Design & prepare specifications, calculations, single line diagram definition.


11. Demonstrate the ability to perform regular and scheduled backups of all process control programs and HMI applications.


12. Demonstrate the ability to identify problem areas and make valid proposals for basic modifications to PLC programming code.


13. Demonstrate satisfactory knowledge of and the ability to use manufacturer specific diagnostic software for the purpose of installation, troubleshooting, calibrating, or startup (Example: Drive Executive for Allen Bradley 700, 700S and 700H variable frequency drives (VFDs) or Drive Wizard for Yaskawa A1000, V1000 Variable Frequency Drives.


14. Responsible for the documentation, implementation, startup and ongoing technical support of Programmable Logic Controller (PLC), SQL Serves and IO Drivers, and Human Machine Interface (HMI) programming in an industrial automation environment.


15. Demonstrate satisfactory knowledge of and the ability to maintain, replace, install, and calibrate all instrumentation equipment related to pressure, temperature, flow and volume. 


16. Provide assistance within identified projects to assess and document the current control environment and provide recommendations on continuous improvement.


17. Provide assistance to manufacturing staff to support control and automation modifications and/or improvements to help reach attainment goals on new or existing production lines.


18. Demonstrate satisfactory knowledge of at least one of the following communication protocols: (List specifics at plant; for example: Ethernet, Profibus, AB controlnet, HART Protocol, RS232 serial communication, RS Linx).


19. Expected to gain proficiency in at least two of the following programs: (List specifics at plant, for example: Siemens Symatic Win CC, Siemens Step 7 Micro/Win, Yaskawa Drive Wizard, Wonderware HMI software, CTI Workshop, AB ControlLogix 500, AB ControlLogix 5000, AB Drive Logix, AB RSLogix HMI software, Siemens Drive Monitor, Siemens Symatic manager for S7300 PLCs).


20. Expected to gain proficiency in at least two of the following: (List specifics at plant, for example; Weight Loss Feeders, Load Cells, Thermocouples, RTDS, Temperature Control, Instrumentation and Displays, Camera Systems, Ethernet Network Technology, Fiber Optic Systems, PID loops, VF Drives).


21. Must be familiar with various types of sensors including: Photoelectric, Sonic, Thru-Beam, Proximity, Lasers, and Mechanical limits.


22. Maintain and develop expertise in technologies currently in use and being introduced at the plant through formal and informal training.


23. As with all positions at the plant, overtime is mandatory and regular and predictable attendance is essential.  Be willing and able to respond to call-ins on an “as needed” basis.


24. Perform any other duties as directed by management.

KEY QUALIFICATIONS:

Education and Experience:

1. Technical degree or proven experience in applicable technology.


2. Familiarity in current industry technology.


3. 2 years of relevant experience is a plus.

Preferred Requirements:

1. Ability to present technical information to non-technical audiences.


2. AutoCAD or Draftsite skills are a plus.
