Our Equity Capital Markets (ECM) team advises, structures and executes a range of equity offerings for corporations. We focus on Initial Public Offerings and follow-ons but also advise on hybrid securities such as convertible bonds and equity derivative solutions.
Opportunity
The ECM team is seeking an experienced investment banking professional to focus on the Healthcare Industry for a position in San Francisco. The successful candidate will play a vital and accountable leadership role in all aspects of the transaction process and formation/pursuit of strategic business ideas.
The VP will serve as the primary project leader and supervisor of Associates/Analysts on project teams. This individual is recognized by clients as a key member of the team and will take the lead on the marketing and execution of mandates and will have direct responsibility and interaction with both senior bankers internally as well as clients. S/he will leverage and coordinate J.P. Morgan's resources on behalf of the client. In this capacity, one must understand industry fundamentals, anticipate client needs, and leverage J.P. Morgan's and the team's resources to anticipate new business opportunities. The balance between leveraging internal technical/product expertise and external relationship building is the essence of the position.
Responsibilities
Participate in the origination and execution of equity transactions, including initial public offerings, follow-on equity offerings and convertibles.
Target potential equity issuers and new equity capital raising opportunities by corporate clients; perform buy-side investor, equity market conditions and offering size analyses, and prepare equity road-show layouts.
Coordinate efforts with deal team members across the investment bank, including the capital markets, corporate finance, and mergers and acquisitions departments.
Participate in prospectus drafting and due diligence, preparation of roadshow schedules and presentations, investor targeting and investor feedback, and development of equity pricing materials
Develop a clear identity within ECM and the relevant sub-sector.
Participate in substantial day-to-day client contact and client servicing.
Begin to build long-term external relationships and manage client relationships. This should include conducting new business presentations and developing new ideas for business at a relevant client level.
Work independently, producing high-quality work by totally leveraging, and accessing the Firm.
Continue to round out product and technical training for Associates and Analysts.
Understudy Managing Directors on certain accounts or transactions, depending on the size and complexity of the client or transaction.
Demonstrate skills that will produce revenues for the Firm while gaining a broad understanding of how the Firm can derive revenues from each particular situation.
Begin to develop a set of defined projects for new business development.
Play a key role in maintaining and fostering a strong positive culture within the team.
Qualifications
Bachelors' degree required; MBA is preferred.
At least 4 years post-MBA experience in Investment Banking either within ECM, relevant sub-sector coverage (with significant IPO experience), or related field.
Proven ability to comfortably interact with business clients and management - it is critical that the candidate be able to relate well to client counterparts and develop good working relationships with these individuals.
Excellent relationship-building skills, maturity, good judgment, and an ability to work with, and establish trust and credibility with professionals at all levels inside J.P. Morgan.
Strong interpersonal skills and ability to communicate effectively in presentations; expressing complex financial strategies in an organized and articulate manner.
Demonstrated leadership qualities that are team-oriented, fostering, and collegial.
Ability to delegate effectively and pay attention to detail while maintaining a high level of productivity will be important.
Very strong financial modeling/valuation and analytical skills.
