Corporate Counsel – Health Transactions at Best Buy in Richfield, Minnesota

Role Summary:
The attorney filling this role will provide legal support for Best Buy Health and, as needed, other Best Buy business units. Key responsibilities include:


  • providing transactional advice on diverse and fast-paced business initiatives;

  • drafting and negotiating payor, provider, license, distribution, vendor, customer, and other strategic commercial agreements;

  • advising business leaders on a wide variety of topics, including commercial transactions, compliance matters, health care regulations, end user terms and conditions, exposure to liability, customer and vendor relationships, dispute resolution, product acquisition, risk mitigation, retail sales, and services;

  • integrating and collaborating with internal clients to understand business objectives and legal needs;

  • proactively making decisions within their team's area of responsibility; frequently applying judgment and discretion within broad parameters and guiding principles, and often in unique or complex circumstances;

  • handling multiple matters simultaneously; and

  • managing outside counsel as needed.


Minimum Qualifications:

  • JD degree from an ABA accredited law school, admitted to practice law in at least one state (if not licensed in Minnesota, must be willing to become licensed in Minnesota).

  • Five or more years of demonstrated work experience providing legal advice on sophisticated commercial contracts, including those involving business lines subject to healthcare regulatory requirements, whether in private practice or as in-house counsel.

  • Ability to:

(a) evaluate complex situations using multiple information sources and provide practical advice on technical matters and business operations;
(b) quickly develop and maintain relationships and rapport with business owners and cross-functional partners that help facilitate transactions and ongoing operations;
(c) use communication and diplomacy skills required to direct, persuade, and influence clients and cross-functional partners; and
(d) operate in a fast-moving environment with minimal supervision on critical enterprise projects.

Preferred Qualifications:


  • experience providing legal advice on health care transactions and compliance including health care regulations (e.g., HIPAA and state privacy matters, Medicare and Medicaid participation and billing, fraud, waste and abuse laws, anti-kickback laws, False Claims Act, or some combination of the forgoing), whether in private practice or as in-house counsel;

  • health care industry experience;

  • experience providing legal advice on mergers and acquisitions, minority investments, and/or joint ventures;

  • retail experience; and

  • knowledge of finance, tax, and accounting issues impacting commercial and corporate transactions.
