Who we are looking for

This position within the team will be based in the United States, and will have principal responsibility for leading transformation for the Global Delivery / Institutional Services Business Risk Management organization, and for core risk initiatives and programs with a focus on the management and resolution of incidents and operating model redesign. The role will focus on taking an end to end view of various capabilities and transforming it to increase the efficacy and reduce the risks associated with such processes. Core programs that will be a focus in this role are Billing, Incident/error management and resolution, Alternatives product operations integration, regulatory change implementation and various client facing change initiatives.

This position will also include providing thought leadership and support to the global risk and control efforts of the Global Delivery / Institutional Services Business Risk Management organization and will report directly into the Business Risk Management Executive for Global Delivery / Institutional Services. 

Candidates will have a combination of in-depth experience of operations in products such as custody, fund accounting, transfer agency and alternatives in addition to experience of running large programs of work with complex dependencies and large stakeholder groups involved. This role will also need to be adept at interfacing with IT and the Artificial intelligence team to ensure technology is being optimized to transform our operational capabilities. In addition, the incumbent will also be experienced in leading analyses of incidents which require communication with clients on root cause and resolution.

In partnership with the Global Delivery / Institutional Services organization and its associated business units, State Street’s Global Delivery / Institutional Services Business Risk Management organization (GD IS BRM) is responsible for developing, validating and ensuring the efficacy of the risk and control environment across the organization.

The current remit of GD IS BRM includes Assurance, Risk, Controls and Assessment activities, Business Continuity, Governance, Operational Risk Management and incident analysis, Compliance Program implementation, Risk Metrics, Event Management, Policy and regulatory change and Information Security.

What you will be responsible for

As Head of Global Delivery/Institutional Services Business Risk Management Transformation you will


  • Successfully deliver on business/first line of defense (FLOD) risk and control process redesign or operation model change initiatives in accordance with relevant policies and frameworks – through close collaboration with Global Delivery / Institutional Services Senior Management and other regionally based partners where Global Delivery / Institutional Services conducts business.

  • Drive, deliver and embed Op model / process redesign initiatives across Global Delivery / Institutional Services to ensure the GD/IS organization is fit for purpose to scale up and serve the firm with a robust and reliable risk and controls framework.

  • Support the implementation of a robust, industry-standard risk management framework across Global Delivery / Institutional Services

  • Support establishment of end to end client focused incident management framework

  • Partner with other relevant corporate functions to ensure effectiveness of delivery and transparency of activities, project-related plans, and expectations management.

  • Ensure that a governance structure is in place which incorporates management metrics that will stimulate discussion, prompt informed decisions with regards to opportunities or risks associated with transformation.

  • Continuously assess and propose opportunities to enhance risk management processes and controls improvement and provide guidance to business on design and application of key controls, procedures and best practices.

  • Advise the business on the implications of regulatory and policy change.

  • Manage staff for execution, career development, delegation and effective monitoring of activities assigned.

  • Executive presence and strong leadership skills with the ability to develop strategy, and coordinate with global organizations. Must be able to deploy resources through management of a direct team and coordination with a virtual one to deliver against the requirements of the role.

  • Ability to operate strategically and with a global mindset and establish a long term vision and the steps/timelines needed to achieve that vision.

  • Strong organizational awareness with ability to facilitate and resolve conflicts; ability to make informed, risk optimized decisions under time pressure.

  • Strict attention to detail is required; the successful candidate will demonstrate an aptitude for detailed analysis, trend identification and a propensity to drive issues toward resolution.

  • Keen awareness and appreciation for teamwork and collaboration; this role will require the candidate to be adept/effective at interpersonal interactions in order to introduce and influence change within the organization.

  • Superior verbal and written communication skills; it is vital that the candidate possess the ability to articulate complex thoughts in a cogent, linear and method-driven manner and to assimilate information for senior executives concisely and appropriately for the situation at hand.

  • Financial Services operations experience, and preferably within an associated audit or risk management discipline, with operational process management and/or design experience.

Education & Preferred Qualifications


  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Business, Finance or related fields; MBA a plus

  • 15-18 years’ experience in in the financial services industry with a focus on custody, fund accounting and related services.
