Job Description:

JOB SUMMARY:
Seasoned Individual contributor responsible for creating and advancing Charter's interests in the wireless segment (cellular, WiFi etc), and associated global standards fora. Also, expected to provide recommendations wrt technologies (e.g. 5G NR in mmWave, 5G NR in unlicensed spectrum), roadmaps, spectrum strategy to internal stakeholders e.g. Product organization, Engineering and Operations, Regulatory and government affairs, as well as vendors and MSO partners.

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
* System level analysis of cellular/WLAN network performance and coexistence through ns-3 computer simulations
* Link level analysis of next-generation radio access waveforms and error rate performance
* Designing and conducting end-to-end simulations spanning IP to PHY layers together with incorporation of channel models
* In-depth investigation on diverse technical information including conference papers, design document, standard specifications, etc.
* Making technical contributions to global standards bodies as necessary
* Responsible primarily for the creation, and execution of Charter's strategy wrt Layer 1 (PHY) both within the company, and in affected global standards fora such as 3GPP.
* Expert knowledge of communication theory, LTE and 5G NR PHY layer and technologies such as massive-MIMO, waveforms (DFT-s-OFDM/CP-OFDM), etc is required.
* Provide necessary standards-related support to ongoing trials (e.g. mmWave etc).
* Refines a long-term technology evolution roadmap (3-5 years) articulating strategic decision points, technology evolution plan and recommendations with regard to technology and network infrastructure investments.
* Contributes to intellectual property creation, patent filing and promotion of such IP through the contribution to relevant standards and industry forums.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Technical Skills:

* Minimum 10-yrs of experience in major global standards fora. Specifically in 3GPP RAN WG1, in the last 3-5 years, with a proven track record. Past or present rapporteurship of specification(s), and/or chairmanship of a 3GPP WG is required.
* Intimate familiarity with E-UTRAN PHY/MAC, and 5G NR PHY/MAC layer is mandatory. Extensive knowledge of wireless communication theory, linear and non-linear systems, spectral efficiency, DSP algorithms, link-level / system-level simulations, system-level characterization of analog/RF circuits etc.
* Intimate familiarity with lower layers (PHY and MAC) of unlicensed spectrum technologies e.g. LTE LAA, NR Unlicensed, and IEEE 802.11 ac/n/ax/be/ay is required.
* Multiple (>15) patents, and/or publication in reputed journals (eg IEEE), and/or published author
* Ability to navigate complex research areas such as (c)(v)-RAN, Edge Computing, mIoT, V2X, NFV etc is essential to this role.

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS
Technical Skills

* Experience in cellular systems such as 3GPP NR and LTE with excellent research record is preferred
* Experience in wireless LAN (IEEE802.11) MAC/PHY layers protocol design and/or analysis is preferred
* Experience in cross-layer system design is a strong plus
* Experience in millimeter-wave channel modeling is a strong plus
* Preference will be given for candidates well-verse in MATLAB programming

EDUCATION
Masters degree in Electrical/Computer Engineering/Applied Mathematics with a minimum 15-yrs of experience OR
PhD in Electrical/Computer Engineering/Applied Mathematics with a minimum of 10-yrs of experience
3-5 years experience in Global Standardization Fora such as 3GPP, IEEE is required.
