Job Description 

Technician

JOB DESCRIPTION:  Quality Technician

EDUCATION, SKILL, KNOWLEDGE OR ABILITY REQUIRED:    

  • Education:

  • Associate Degree in the physical sciences (chemical, or engineering) preferred

  • Min. 2 years’ experience test lab or instrumental analysis including courses in physical sciences or a related field.  Other combinations of experience and education, which meet the minimum requirements, may be substituted.



PRIMARY FUNCTION OF POSITION


  • Routine Testing (frit):

  • CTE, density and softening point

  • Routine Testing (powder):

  • Particle size, surface area measurements

  • Evaluate and test raw materials as specified by specifications

  • Identify non-conforming products and initiate Product Variance Reports (PVR)

  • Work on teams to address / SCARs and specifications review/update

  • Provide requested test results to aid in problem solving, complaints and variances

  • Improve and revise procedures relating to the Quality Operations function.

  • Develop, maintain, and provide employee Quality Operations training.


  • Maintain process control for a variety of chemical, electrical, and physical tests on products, intermediates and raw materials.

  • Improve QC database.

  • Provide assistance to other departments for training and qualifying personnel.


  • Responsible to communicate to manufacturing personnel the status or disposition of in process, intermediate, or finished goods as required.

  • Understand proper handling, labeling and disposal of hazardous materials and their contents.

  • Understand proper use of safety equipment.

  • Demonstrates continuous effort to improve lab operations, decrease turnaround times, streamline work processes, and work cooperatively and jointly to provide quality customer

  • Other duties as assigned.

  • General Training:

    Safety training is required prior to working in QC.

  • Job Specific Training:

    This position requires minimal supervision by department manager.  Training is required before the execution of any job related function.


    Appropriate Standard Test Procedure (STP) training shall be provided as it pertains to the performance of specific task work for the QC Technician.  Responsibilities are defined in above section (TYPICAL RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES).


    Additional training shall be provided as necessary with respect to other procedures such as, but not limited to, the following:


    Quality Assurance Procedures (QA)


    Quality Control Procedures (QC)


    Standard Operating Procedures (SOP)


    General Procedures (GP)


    Work Instructions (WI)


    Standard Manufacturing Procedures (SMP)
