Job Summary

The Emergency Department Health Unit Coordinator is responsible for pre-registering patients into the health information system by obtaining appropriate information from Emergency Medical Services to process complete demographic and other visit related information.  Responsibilities include accurate identification of pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients, interacting with patients, members of hospital departments, providers, and other team members. The Emergency Department Health Unit Coordinator is also responsible for providing excellent customer service by demonstrating behaviors that align with the organization’s core values and The Augusta Way.

Education Requirements

• High School Diploma


• Must possess written and verbal communication skills

Previous Work Experience Requirements

• 1 year previous experience in customer service


• 1 year previous experience in general clerical office or administrative duties experience or applicable classwork may be substituted

Skill Requirements

• Able to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing


• Telephone etiquette skills


• Detail oriented


• Able to meet physical and mental requirements of position in fast paced, complex acute care setting
