Job Description


Conducts analytical studies on engineering proposals to develop design for products.


Major Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following.  Other duties may be assigned as necessary.



  • Engineer new products from concepts

  • Developing specifications, maintain specifications book, coordinate with draftsperson for part print documentation

  • Material selection with product managers, designers, suppliers, etc. to meet or exceed quality and cost objectives

  • Developing drawings for tooling, quotes, etc. (when needed)

  • Determine fit, form and function (CAD)

  • Coordinate preliminary design reviews

  • Coordinate cross functional design and safety reviews with Design Manager

  • Maintain ECR/ECN system as they pertain to Design Engineering

  • Continuous search for product quality improvement and cost improvement opportunities

  • Manage projects from concepts through production with design manager as detailed in product develop procedure sections

  • Design projects as needed Model Shop coordination • maintain model shop prototype log book

  • Prioritize model shop prototype functions (model shop to determine schedule and due dates)

  • Coordinate rapid prototypes through supplier •

  • Research, recommend and develop AR’s for capital equipment

  • Train model makers as needed (drawing interpretations)

  • Test Lab coordination

  • Coordinate tests conducted in lab, including initiation of tests needed by design personnel for product development 

  • Determine with test lab technicians, test methods, parameters, inspections, studies, etc.

  • Create reports for analysis, comparison, recommendations, etc., as needed

  • Coordinate pre-production evaluations between product management, suppliers and test lab including distribution of results, recommendations, etc.

  • Coordinate 1st production product approvals between QC, product managers and test lab including distribution of product evaluation (approval) form to all parties responsible

  • Supplier coordination

  • Coordinate tooling needs and development between ClosetMaid and suppliers

  • Maintain project schedules with suppliers, reporting status to product managers, design manager, others as needed

  • Trouble-shoot potential problems during development, production, other

  • Coordinate 1st article inspections between supplier and test lab

Requirements:



  • Advanced Education or equivalent experience

  • 4 to 6 years of Experience

  • Ability to work in a team environment and maintain regular attendance
