You will be a key member of Medtronic's Surgical Robotics R&D sustaining team, working to support the design of our first-generation robot about to launch around the globe.

The Medical Surgical business unit set the standard for Minimally Invasive Surgery (MIS) by creating innovative surgical products and services that focus on obesity and diseases and conditions of the gastrointestinal tract, lung, abdominal wall, pelvic region, and the head and neck.

A Day in the Life

This position will be based out of Medtronic's campus in North Haven CT and reports to the Sr. Director of R&D Sustaining.

Outstanding written and verbal communication skills are critical to success in this role, as is the ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment. You will work closely with the project management office, Medtronic engineers, and our contract manufacturing site. This person will be able to dive in deep technically, but also able to see the broader needs of the business and the surgical robotics organization.

You will:


  • Lead sustaining projects for the Hugo robot

  • Drive execution of design changes or enhancements proposed for Hugo v1.0 for the instruments, sterile interface module and SIM

  • Work with engineers to develop a deep understanding of the technological underpinnings of the system

  • Enable on-time and on-budget execution

  • Coordinate activities with contract manufacturing, purchasing and quality

  • Drive multiple projects simultaneously

Must Have: Minimum Requirements


  • Bachelor's degree required

  • Requires a University Degree and minimum of 10 years of relevant experience, or advanced degree with a minimum of 8 years of relevant experience

Nice to have:


  • Experience with highly regulated and/or safety-critical systems is required (medical device experience strongly preferred)

  • Outstanding verbal and written communication skills

  • Strong leadership skills

  • Comfortable working in a fast passed, cross disciplinary environment

  • Ability to discuss technical details with engineering staff, the ideal candidate will have a strong engineering and product development background.

  • Ability to create and track a project budget and timeline
