Job Summary

Ideal candidate would use detailed knowledge of Radiation Therapy treatment techniques, delivers daily treatments to 30+ patients. Excellent customer service is required for interaction with patients, physicians, and colleagues within the clinic.

Experience and Education

1. Graduate of JCERT accredited program in Radiation Therapy or equivalent.


2. Bachelor's degree in a healthcare field and no experience or Associate's degree and 2 years of Radiation Therapy experience.


3. Licensure as a Medical Radiologic Technologist by the Texas Medical Board.


4. Must have passed the registry exam as a Radiologic Technologist by the American Registry of Radiology Technologists (ARRT).


5. BLS certification required.

Job Duties

This position works under general supervision of Chief Radiation Therapist to provide radiotherapy treatments as prescribed by the physicians to adult and pediatric populations.

1. Operates a variety of conventional treatment machines to deliver prescribed treatment dose.


2. Prepares and educates patients for radiotherapy; Administers conventional radiotherapy treatment and monitors patient separation from conventional treatment machine.


3. Prepares treatment room and fabricates immobilization/treatment devices.


4. Coordinates patient scheduling and retrieval of patient records.


5. Assures radiation safety measures for patients and personnel.


6. Tracks, records, and compiles all clinical research data of patients following departmental and IRB policies.


7. Follows and participates in development of program's policies, procedures, and quality assurance methods.


8. Discusses technical problems with faculty and staff to suggest corrections and/or solutions.


9. Consults with supervisor or physician concerning treatment.


10. May perform computer driven dosimetry and all related treatment plan calculations.


11. Assists in commissioning, calibration, quality assurance, and physical measurements as appropriate for system accuracy.


12. Participates in call duties for non-emergent and emergent clinical needs as assigned.


13. Actively engages in teaching, supervising, and evaluation of students in the Radiation Therapy program.


14. Performs other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

1. Work requires use of considerable judgment in application for radiotherapy on conventional machines, practices and policies to work problems, organization and administration of clinical activities.


2. Ability to ensure adherence to policies and procedures of university such as FLSA, salary guidelines, accounting regulations, and internal controls policy.


3. Ability to communicate effectively with various levels of internal and external contacts.


4. Excellent interpersonal and teamwork skills.


5. Excellent organizational and project management skills.

Working Conditions

Work is performed primarily by the conventional linac machines in the therapy console area.
