GENERAL SUMMARY/ OVERVIEW STATEMENT: 

 

Under direct supervision of the Area Manager of the Operating Rooms. Coordinates the day-to-day management of the ORs inclusive of the supervision and scheduling of employees and adherence to job routine's standards and time expectations. Performs quality assurance checks and recommends procedural changes as needed. Monitors the inventory of supplies and responsible for the preventative and routine maintenance of equipment. Coordinates the ongoing training of employees. Troubleshoots and solves data and equipment problems to prevent an impact on the operational schedule and the timely completion of daily and monthly terminal cleaning. Supervises for quality assurance the interactions of OR project team with ORAs, Biomed, Anesthesia and PACU staff. Assists in implementing process improvement enhancements via daily communication with Environmental Services Area Manager\Operations Manager, OR Administration and PACU Administration. Functions as an Aide I, Aide II OR, Aide III and Hazardous Waste Worker as needed.

 

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 

 

* Manages the daily activities of the Operating Rooms. Monitors the adherence to standards for tasks, time deadlines and documentation that are outlined in the job routine. Will reassign staffing and/or job responsibilities to accomplish expected performance standards.

* Maintains pre-set inventory levels for all janitorial supplies, project cleaning monthly schedule, etc.

* Responsible for assuring that equipment and back-up equipment is properly functioning. Completes the maintenance documentation that is outlined in the Equipment Maintenance Book.

* Conducts quality assurance checks on adherence to job routine standards of Aide I, Aide II OR, Project Workers and Hazardous Waste Workers. Responsible for corrective action as needed. Completes employee performance appraisals according to department standards.

* Oversees the training of new employees. Assures that new employee and supervisor document the Training Checklist and a copy kept in the employee's department file. Recommend, conduct and/or coordinate training sessions for staff.

* Troubleshoot and resolve operational and equipment issues. Document solutions via email to Area Manager and Operations Manager. Responsible for evaluating staff's ability to troubleshoot issues. Will conduct and maintain documentation for quarterly "emergency drills" in order to evaluate staff's ability to respond to equipment failures, seasonal emergencies or staffing shortages.

* Complete or coordinate the completion of special projects as assigned.

* Provide quality customer service, on-going communications, feedback and follow-through with customers / peers. Responds to requests and problem notification by nursing staff. Responsible for troubleshooting these reports in the absence of a manager. Notifies manager of these reports when appropriate.

* Ability to perform all principal duties required by the Aide I, Aide II OR, Aide III and Hazardous Waste Worker.

* Conduct system testing for implementing menu changes.

* Responsible for the efficient use of staffing, materials and equipment.

 


 

Qualifications

 

SKILLS & COMPETENCIES REQUIRED: 

 

* Ability to read, write, and speak English.

* Able to work varied shifts, including nights, weekends and holidays

* Must perform basic math.

* Ability to reset priorities if equipment and/or staffing issues develop.

* Proven ability in customer service skills, team building skills, cleaning and sanitation.

* Competent in interacting with customers including projecting a positive image for hospital, handling diversity and managing problems.

* Knowledge of Computer Systems.

* Passes competencies annually that demonstrate mastery of the current software.

* Demonstrates understanding of service requirements that differ between specific projects scheduled in the ORs - post construction clean versus monthly terminal clean, etc.

* Demonstrates understanding of required protective gear and infection control procedures.

* Demonstrates an understanding of emergency protocols

* Effective interpersonal and communication skills.

* Ability to give directions and manage resources.

* Ability to understand and follow procedures.

* Flexibility to change tasks frequently.

* Ability to use judgment and solve problems.

* Ability to make sound decisions under time restraints.

* Ability to follow directions assigned by the OR\PACU terminal cleaning project team.

EDUCATION: 

 

Minimum Required: High school diploma, GED or equivalent Certificate   Preferred:  Certificate: CSCT 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

EXPERIENCE:  

 

 

Required: 2-3 years of prior supervisory experience in a healthcare or hospitality service setting or other relevant experience.

 

 

 

 

 

 

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY 

 

Direct: Supervises up to 20-25 employees.

 

Provides for training and orientation of new hires, conducts performance appraisals, disciplines and includes termination.

 

Maintains personnel department records and weekly payroll.

 

Prepares work schedules, assigns daily or weekly tasks; authorizes changes in schedule and paid time off. Reassigns personnel as needed.

 

Participates with Manager in the development, implementation, and monitoring of work performance standards.

 

Participates with in-service education to support professional staff.

WORKING CONDITIONS: 

 

* Work in a Hospital Operating Room. Must be able to stand for long periods of time (up to 100% of work day)

* Able to lift heavy loads and push carts up to a maximum of 50 lbs (40% of time)

* May work in a hot and noisy environment, small, busy units

* Environment may be busy and hectic with frequent interruptions

* Protective covering required when using cleaning supplies. Incorrect use/training of employees could result in physical harm to the employees and/or others.

* Able to work in air-conditioned climate.

* Able to work in environment where temperature may fluctuate widely
