We are looking for a Lab Assistant (40 hours per week) in our Elmwood Park, NJ location.
Schedule: Monday - Friday 11:00pm - 7:30am
Job Description:
The Laboratory Assistant provides support for the clinical laboratory to ensure that testing may be performed in a timely manner. This also includes ensuring that the laboratory environment remains clean and safe.
Position Responsibilities:
Duties may include but are not necessarily limited to the following:
Locate, retrieve, and transport specimens as needed.
Generate, distribute, and monitor worksheets and pending reports.
Map samples promptly after testing is completed.
Store samples, capped or tightly covered, with parafilm in designated storage areas, with utmost consideration to maintaining specimen integrity, safety, easy retrieval, and organization.
Provide assistance to Lab Techs in any area when necessary.
Remove and/or discard expired samples from storage area as required.
Maintain a safe and clean workspace at all times.
Maintain a well-organized work area with adequate supplies.
Maintain documentation of assigned functions as required.
Adhere to Personal Protective Equipment Compliance Procedure.
Comply with both corporate and department policies and procedures.
Escalate any/all issues or questions through appropriate channels.
Escalate any/all issues or questions to a Lead, Supervisor or Manager.
Attend department trainings and meetings and interacts in two way communication to assist in process improvement.
Minimum Qualifications (required vs. preferred):
PREFERRED:
Lab work experience.
Knowledge of medical terminology.
REQUIRED:
High school diploma or equivalent. Additional education is a plus.
Familiar with sample requirements, test requests, and medical terminology.
Basic computer skills.
Good written and verbal communication.
Ability to work in a team environment.
Problem solving skills.
Physical Demands:
Lifting up to 50 pounds and/or carrying objects weighing up to 25 pounds.
Sitting, standing, and/or walking for up to four hours.
