Position Description


The Customer Business Manager position focused on engaging large Pharma/CRO and Biotech accounts at senior levels.  The Customer Business Manager Life Science (CBM - LS) is responsible for development of large account strategies and driving expanded opportunities. The CBM-LS will coordinating interactions of local sales team, support specialists, and internal stakeholders as well as conducting and implementing strategic plans. The CBM-LS must have a well-developed technical aptitude in current molecular procures including PCR and Next Generation Sequencing, and be fully capable of positioning products across the entire QIAGEN portfolio. Must be able to assess the local funding and competitive landscape to develop strategies and tactical plans to maximize strategic account revenues as well as coordinate execution across the regional sales team.


Main tasks (primary responsibilities) of the position:




  • Sales revenue/Budgets (Sales Quota) - Meet or exceed sales targets for all products and assigned business objectives. Develop tactical plans to maximize revenues.


  • Strategy - Implementation of corporate strategy in defined key accounts. Negotiate contract and execute pricing strategy to maintain existing business and develop new business.


  • Customer Focus - Through consultative selling, enhance customer satisfaction and increase our competitive advantage while building trust and relationships with customers. Develop strong relationships with key customers.


  • Planning/Forecasting - Develop and execute an effective business plan for the assigned territory. Forecast within accuracy guidelines. Perform daily pre-call planning for increased sales effectiveness. 


  • Business/Markets - Recognize market trends and gain competitive intelligence within territory. Communicate market information through bus teams, CRM market feedback, and/or other approved channels. Drive and initiate development of new business opportunities in defined area.


  • Manage Resources - Involve and support team members to achieve mutual company goals and objectives. Daily use of CRM database for input and output of customer information to increase sales effectiveness. Meet expense budget guidelines.


  • Decision Making - Makes sounds business decisions based on relevant information, takes calculated risks as necessary to achieve business



Position Requirements



  • Education level - minimum of Bachelor of Science or equivalent, graduate degree preferred

  • 2 or more years of technical experience in next Generation Sequencing preferred

  • 5-7 years of directly related sales experience with proven track record in the Life Science Industry. Wide range of knowledge of molecular biology applications, products, and market. Knowledge of QIAGEN products preferred.

  • Proven ability to sell at the C Suite level in an organization.

  • Create and develop strategy. Work is accomplished in a proactive manner without considerable direction. Able to create and develop resolution independently to complex problems while meeting objectives.

  • Self directed, strategic solutions based approach to territory management

  • Routinely contributes to and leads teams practicing influential leadership

  • Experience in project management and complex sales



Personal Requirements



  • Willingness and ability to take on additional challenging tasks/ project responsibilities assigned by manager, business team, or others

  • Excellent listening, presentation and communication skills for all business levels

  • 80%+ of time spent in the field, willingness to travel and valid driving license required
