Versar, Inc. is seeking a Trail Maintenance Technician to support the Bureau of Land Management. This position will support the restoration efforts of illegal Off Highway Vehicle routes. Primary work location is Barstow, CA.
Responsibilities:
Provide restoration efforts of illegal Off Highway Vehicle (OHV) routes in the four sub-regions.
Assist in the restoration of routes, installation of route signs, construction and continuing maintenance of trails and trail heads, horizontal and vertical mulching of closed routes, repairing or replacing burned wooden fences and constructing fences to protect recovering vegetation from OHV use.
Requirements:
Must be comfortable working in remote areas (without cell phone coverage).
Able to perform physically demanding manual labor outdoors on difficult and hazardous terrain in all types of weather.
Able to safely operate hand and power tools, such as weed eaters, water pumps, chainsaws, power augers, small tractors, sledgehammer, planting bars, and pruners.
Must be able to use motor vehicles; in most cases this will be a 4-wheel drive vehicle, UTV or ATV.
Willing to work up to 10 hours per day for 40 hours per week.
