The Director of New Product Development (NPD) Program Management will be a leader within the Medtronic Surgical Robotics Program Management Office (PMO). This Director will work closely with Research & Development, Quality Affairs, Marketing, Operations, and many other cross-functional partners to support a cadence of successful product development product launches. This role will manage a team of Program and Project Managers who manage the cross functional core teams for a portfolio of projects.

  • Deliver quality commercial releases according to process

A DAY IN THE LIFE:

The Director of NPD Program Management is responsible for New Product Development project management:


  • Leads or leverages cross functional teams to evaluate, develop, and manage projects for new product development and on-going lifecycle management.
  • Directly manage, develop, and coordinate activities of a team of Program/Project Managers supporting the Surgical Robotics product development efforts.
  • Partner with Marketing on managing our pre-product development activities and coordinating a monthly innovation day with project reviews and portfolio roadmap updates.
  • Coordinate, develop and track schedules, plans, tasks, and priorities.
  • Maintain a sense of urgency, facilitate problem solving sessions and meetings to address obstacles, and hold team members accountable to program commitments.
  • Anticipate and mitigate risk points. Make tradeoffs between time, schedule, cost, and quality (when appropriate), while meeting safety and regulatory requirements.
  • Exhibit strong technical expertise in product development processes (PDP) and provide mentorship to Program/Project Managers and other team members.
  • Exhibit project leadership skills including, but not limited to, critical path definition, optimization, monitoring, and management to ensure the most efficient time to market.
  • Ability to track the financials of the project with such things as forecasting, accruals, and actuals.
  • Develop a broad understanding of the Medtronic Surgical Robotics and Instrumentation Businesses, products, and clinical applications and leverage the knowledge of others.
  • Ability to coordinate, track, proof and finalize project documents as needed.
  • Proven ability to coach and influence project teams to achieve maximum performance and efficiency in the project.

MUST HAVE (MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS)

  • Bachelor's Degree with 10+ years of project/direct management experience or Advanced Degree with 8+ years of experience with 7 years of project/direct management experience

  • 8 years of experience in project management or commercial new product delivery in a regulated industry (e.g. medical, automotive, aerospace, etc.)

  • High degree of competency in Microsoft Office Suite (Project, PowerPoint, Excel, Word)

  • Proven track record of successfully managing within a matrixed organization

  • Experience managing Program/Project Managers with a history of increasing engagement


NICE TO HAVE:

  • 15+ years of experience in Project Management or commercial new product delivery

  • MBA and PMP Certification preferred

  • Knowledge in product development, project management, and commercialization in the medical device industry

  • Strong communication and teamwork skills; must possess excellent relationship building skills with direct reports, peers, and senior leaders

  • Must be able to lead cross-functional discussions; driving towards alignment, decisions, resolutions when necessary

  • Ability to manage multiple projects at once while understanding cultural differences between various regions of the world

  • Experience with developing and/or commercializing large capital medical devices (e.g. Robotic systems, Imaging equipment, etc.)

  • Experience establishing a Project Portfolio Management (PPM) system for a business (connecting schedule, resource management, budget, etc.)

  • Experience working under regulations of the FDA, notified bodies, and other regulatory agencies for successful commercial launches

  • Product launch experience working with Global teams
