Department Overview
The Corporate Sustainability team, which is part of the Corporate Affairs organization, works to integrate and align PG&E's sustainability strategy with its business strategy. With the support of PG&E's Chief Sustainability Officer, the team works collaboratively to advance energy and environmental policy issues important to our business and customers; integrate forward-looking climate data into decision-making across the company; identify, benchmark, and implement best practices to drive continuous improvement within our business; and engage with a wide range of stakeholders, both within and outside the company, to guide and advance PG&E's sustainability strategy.
Position Summary:
The Sustainability Specialist, Senior will support PG&E's climate resilience and adaptation program, a core initiative within the Corporate Sustainability team. The Senior Specialist will directly support team leads responsible for executing a territory-wide, multi-year climate vulnerability assessment (CVA) and associated community engagement program and will have a major role in project managing these banner climate adaptation program efforts. The Senior Specialist will also coordinate relationships with the many internal contributors to the effort and will assist in developing report and communication materials associated with the CVA. The Specialist may also be tapped to help manage technical and community engagement consultants that will be supporting aspects of these projects. Additionally, this position will also be responsible for developing and maintaining an internal system to advance the organization and efficiency of the Climate Resilience Team.
Desired Skills:
The successful candidate will have demonstrated familiarity with climate change science and projections and knowledge of their application to planning; strong research and analytical skills; and familiarity with environmental and energy issues. Familiarity with energy infrastructure is a plus, as is experience in public affairs or other community-facing work. The individual will possess outstanding written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills and the ability to communicate complex issues to a range of audiences. The individual will have strong organizational, creative, and strategic thinking skills. The successful candidate will also be able to effectively operate both independently and as part of a team and to manage multiple projects simultaneously from conception to implementation.
Responsibilities:
Directly support the Climate Vulnerability Assessment and associated community engagement process in a major project management role, as well as assist in the development of related documentation and communications material.
Coordinate and manage relationships with external and internal partners.
Develop and maintain internal systems to advance the efficiency and effectiveness of the climate resilience team.
Support team initiatives to achieve PG&E's climate resilience goals as needed.
Qualifications:
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience
Five years of experience in a related field
Desired Qualifications:
Master's degree
Experience working with climate-related models and associated outputs or natural resource-related models and associated outputs
Experience with community engagement, public affairs, or communications.
Experience managing large, complex projects efficiently and effectively to achieve on-deadline outcomes.
Familiarity with energy and/or utility infrastructure, particularly in California.
