Position Summary
This position will directly supervise a team of Project Managers, a work group that is wholly represented by the Engineers and Scientists of California (ESC) Union. The work group is responsible for managing electric transmission line and substation projects throughout PG&E's California's Bay Area of the service territory. Total annual project portfolio can range from $120 - $150 million. This position will report to the Manager Substation and Transmission Line Projects, and is headquartered in San Ramon, Bishop Ranch, or San Jose. The successful candidate will help Electric Transmission Project Management attain its vision of being the leading project management organization in the utility industry by leveraging one's exceptional leadership and technical skills.
Qualifications
Minimum:
A Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Business, Finance or equivalent combination of education, experience, and training.
6 years project management, program management or business management experience OR 3 years supervisory experience of project management, engineering and/ or construction of Transmission/Distribution projects
Desired:
Strong leadership and analytical skills
Supervisory experience, preferably in Project Management
Master's in Business Administration
Knowledge of Engineers and Scientists of California (ESC) Union Contract.
Certified Project Management Professional (PMP) from the Project Management Institute (PMI)
Lean Six Sigma Green or Black Belt Certified.
Demonstrated ability to make project assignments, balance workloads and track work progress for multiple Project Managers across the project portfolio
Demonstrated leadership skills in driving work progress and improving work processes.
Strong verbal and written communication skills.
Strong MS Excel, MS Word, MS PowerPoint and MS Project skills
Strong project scheduling and cost estimating skills.
Understanding of contingency cost estimating and its use.
Demonstrated experience in negotiating and managing contracts for engineering, procurement and construction services.
Electric transmission line and substation system knowledge.
Responsibilities
Live the PG&E Values. Lead by example and drive culture change within Transmission Line and Substation Project Management with effective communications and actions that will enable PG&E to become the leading Utility in the United States.
Supervise 6-12 ESC Project Managers and contractors.
Ensure that the portfolio of assigned projects are managed such that all projects are safely designed and constructed on time, on budget, on scope, and without adverse environmental/ other regulatory impacts.
Manage and forecast project portfolio costs that are accurate and in alignment with annual and project budget targets.
Manage data request responses on time and thoroughly
Proactively identify and resolve project issues to ensure that projects meet overall cost, scope and schedule commitments. Work to remove hurdles and obstacles that are impacting achievement of project or departmental objectives
Work directly with client/sponsor organizations to understand scopes of projects and make fair and balanced Project Manager assignments that are a good fit to each Project Manager's skills
Coach, develop and support Project Managers to improve project management capabilities and to ensure consistency across the organization.
Develop workload plans and strategies to establish balanced levels of internal and external resources to support five year plans.
Establish specific Project Manager expectations, metrics, and tracking tools to measure performance.
Clearly communicate expectations to direct reports and implement performance management as necessary.
Have a good working knowledge of each Project Manager's project portfolio with emphasis on those projects greater than $ 5 million.
Maintain a strong, high morale team of professional Project Managers
Work with Electric Transmission and Substation Projects Manager and other group Supervisors to effectively manage and improve the overall group's operations and processes.
Volunteer for and contribute on special assignments that help improve the entire work group performance.
