We are looking for a skilled Cook to prepare delicious meals for our shelter facilities. You will assist our Hospitality Director in preparing meals for our dining halls which service the guests of the Lydia House, Garland Thompson Men's Center, Rebuilding Lives Center, and community members seeking a meal. Our cooks use their training and the assistance of the other kitchen staff to delight our clients with nutritious and tasty cuisine. An excellent cook must be able to follow instructions in cooking and delivering well-prepared meals. They must be deft in moving around the kitchen and apt in multi-tasking. Experience in using various ingredients, cooking techniques, your creative mind is important as the large majority of our supplies are donated and we never know what is going to come each day.

Open Door Mission is a gospel rescue mission, serving the Greater Omaha Area by providing short-term and long-term shelter, life-changing programs addressing root causes of homelessness and poverty, and homeless prevention resources to those in need.

YOU ARE A SOLID FIT FOR THIS POSITION IF:

• You have a visible relationship with Christ, and are a regular attendee of a local Christian church.
• You have the ability to share the gospel as opportunities arise.
• You are proficient with Google G -Suite and general computer operations.
• You have 2+ years of culinary education or equivalent experience.
• You have experience cooking for large groups of people.
• You are extremely flexible and have the ability to work in an environment that depends on donated materials.

OUR IDEA OF A PERFECT CANDIDATE IS SOMEONE WHO:

• Has experience cooking from scratch and baking.
• Has experience operating a large variety of kitchen equipment.
• Has the ability to effectively and professionally speak to volunteers and donors about our Mission and current needs.
• Has experience directing a small team and holding people accountable.

THIS ROLE WILL BE RESPONSIBLE FOR:

• Assist in the preparation of meals for ODM's dinning halls/cafeteria along side our Hospitality Director, Sous Chef, and other kitchen staff/volunteers.
• Using a creative mindset to properly utilize donated food products in planning and preparation of meals.
• Working with ODM's Volunteer Services in facilitation of kitchen volunteers.
• Maintaining a clean and safe kitchen. We are proud to say that we consistently receive an "Excellent" rating from the health department.

Standard Shift: Saturday-Wednesday 11AM-7:30PM (NO LATE NIGHTS!)

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $12.50-$17.00
