The Therapist is a client advocate who provides direct, family, and/or group therapy to clients on the assigned caseload. Services may be provided in community clinics, schools, homes, or in a combination of settings as needed to meet program goals and client needs. This position requires a high level of initiative and self-motivation.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, Catholic Charities’ therapists are offering telehealth services.

Job Responsibilities:


  • Conducts intake assessments to collect necessary background information, assess medical and clinical status of clients, and establish appropriate diagnosis according to DSM-5 (Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders) standards and definitions.

  • Makes determinations on the nature of emotional and behavioral problems to be addressed and the level of therapy required, including consultation with psychologist/psychiatrist staff.

  • Defines treatment problems based on the intake assessment and diagnosis, addressing behaviors that contributed to admission to the program.

  • Develops treatment plans to establish goals and objectives for client treatment.

  • Writes objectives in clear, measurable terms, emphasizing behaviors that are required to move the client to a lower level of care.

  • Ensures client participation in treatment planning and, when working with children, partners with caregivers in the development of the treatment plan and throughout treatment, identifying and addressing any barriers to participation, as needed.

  • Provides scheduling that works to establish and maintain a therapeutic working relationship with the client(s) that is respectful of budget, culture, values, abilities, and identity.

  • Maintains client(s) documentation according to required policies and procedures including assessments, contact notes, monthly progress notes, biannual treatment plan updates, discharge summaries, continuing authorization documentation, and any other documentation required within the assigned program.

  • Attends treatment team reviews, supervision and staff meetings, recommended group supervision sessions, and may attend group supervision.

  • Provides consultation and encouragement to families/guardians of children in treatment.

  • Provides referrals to external resources to meet client needs.

  • Serves as member of multi-disciplinary treatment teams.

  • Consults with psychologists, psychiatrists, teachers, guidance counselors, Dept. of Social Services, and/or other professionals working with the client(s) to discuss or coordinate services.

  • May be required to assist in crisis situations.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

VILLA MARIA COMMUNITY RESOURCES (VMCR) (Clinic positions):


  • Provides therapy to children adults and families in a clinic and/or public school or in the community.

  • Develop and maintain relationships with key school staff (school based therapists).

  • Provide mental health-related curriculum and training for school staff and students as necessary.

  • Meets Volume of Service standards set by program.

  • Provides family therapy which may include visiting families during weekend and/or evening hours.

REQUIREMENTS:



  • Must have Maryland driver's license with no more than three (3) points.

  • Master's degree from an accredited college approved by the Board.

  • For LMSW & LCSW-C Master’s degree in Social Work.

  • For LGPC & LCPC Master’s degree in Psychology or Counseling.

CERTIFICATION/LICENSURE:



  • Therapist I: LMSW or LGPC


    • The Therapist I is licensed and works while receiving weekly supervision.




  • Therapist II: LCSW-C or LCPC

    • Minimum two years post-graduate experience in providing behavioral health services.

    • Therapist II's are expected to be self-sufficient with limited supervisory input.
