Job Description:

While reporting to the Plant Manager, you will be responsible for all aspects of the HR function at our Franklin Park facility. This Plant has 180 employees, both Union and non-Union. This business is a key strategic part of the Specialty and Prepared Foods End Use Market, within the Plastics Division. The Production and support Operations work a 24/7 schedule.  As a member of the leadership team, the Plant HR Manager must be a driven and engaged leader focused on providing solutions to business challenges and developing a high performing culture.  The ability to influence across all levels will be a significant factor for success in this role.


  • You will partner with the plant leadership team to ensure a complete understanding of human capital needs and objectives aligned to the business strategy

  • You will design, implement and oversee the effective practice of HR policy, procedures and processes; collaborate with regional and/or corporate HR resources to ensure compliance and alignment with company protocols 

  • You are responsible for talent acquisition, employee relations, training and development, employee engagement, and other core HR functional areas

  • You will collaborate with management and supervisors to develop and implement processes and tools that foster higher productivity, quality, safety and improved retention of workforce; provide leadership and change management expertise in support of plant business initiatives, projects and changes 

  • You will design, implement, and measure the learning and development for this location and lead the Continuous Skills Development Pillar in our Sonoco Performance Systems (SPS) program  

  • You will lead the development efforts of our management team and front-line leaders through Leadership Fundamentals Training and other leadership development programs

This position is located in Franklin Park, IL.


  • Bachelor’s degree required, preferably in Business with a concentration in Human Resources, Masters of Human Resources or MBA preferred

  • 5-7+ years of experience working in Human Resources within a manufacturing environment required

  • Proficiency in English and Spanish
