Investigative Reporter

Job Description

The Investigative Reporter focuses on challenging, investigative style reporting.  This position manages undercover shooting assignments and understands legal, journalism and ethical issues around investigative reporting. The Investigative Reporter may perform editing on an avid non linear system.

• Works with assignment desk, producers and managers on story development.

• Writes daily content for the website.

• May fill in for anchor as needed.

Essential Job Functions

60% Utilizes exceptional writing and storytelling skills.

25% Creates story proposal and conducts story research.

15% Develops and maintains strong contact relationships.

Minimum Qualifications and Job Requirements | All must be met to be considered.

Education:  Bachelor’s degree in Journalism, Broadcasting or related field, or equivalent training and/or experience.

Experience:  Five to seven years related reporting experience.  Investigative experience strongly preferred.  Preferably in top 50 DMA.

Specific Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Strong understanding of undercover reporting – legal, journalism, ethical issue, strong writing, iNews and Avid.

Must possess strong research, journalism and storytelling skills.

Must possess strong organization skills.

Ability to multi task and manage short and long-term projects.

Must possess strong writing skills a priority.

Ability to work under minimal supervision.

Strong on-air presence.

Travel Required (Approximate):  50%
