We are looking for a self-motivated and compassionate Mental Health Technician to work in our Children’s Long Term Inpatient Program (CLIP). In this role you will take a caring, personal approach to meeting youth’s basic needs while providing physical and emotional safety.



Position Summary: CLIP serves youth ages 12-17 in an intensive inpatient mental health treatment program provided in a secure setting. CLIP is a treatment program for youth who present a risk to themselves or others or are gravely disabled due to mental health conditions. The ideal candidate will possess experience in engaging clients in youth development, school or residential treatment settings.



A day in the life..

• Assists with maintaining a safe and hazard free environment by observing and documenting patient behavior, conducting patient room searches, reporting unsafe conditions and applying appropriate emotional and physical support.

• Performs or assists with the admission of new patients by gathering routine information for nursing assessment, searches patients and belongings for contraband, documents belongings and other appropriate information.

• Orients the patient and patient's family to the facility and the policies and procedures.

• Participates as a member of the interdisciplinary treatment team M-F.

• Assists with initiating and contributing to patient treatment planning, teaching and discharge planning.

• Participates in patient care team conferences by sharing observations of patient's progress toward identified goals and assists the RN with the development, evaluation, and revision of patient care plans.

• Collaborates with therapy team to develop and implement groups that support the recovery process and enhance patient goal attainment

• Participates in the implementation of treatment plans which clearly identify the patient’s voice, treatment strategies, and specific outcome measures

• Meets unit documentation standards

• Tailors effective interventions to meet diverse patient diagnostic and cultural needs

• Provides person-centered advocacy and case management for patients as needed and directed by the care team

• Assists with milieu management by being present with patients on the unit and assisting as needed with daily activities and/or ADLs.

• Completes/conducts daily groups.

• Drives clients in Agency vehicles to various appointments or outings as needed.



You own this if you have..

• Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work, Counseling, Psychology, or any other human services field preferred. Two (2) years of inpatient Behavioral Health experience may be considered in lieu of a Bachelor’s Degree.

• One (1) year of direct patient care experience preferred.

• Must obtain a Washington State Agency Affiliated Counselor registration on or before first day of employment.

• Must obtain a Nursing Assistant Registered prior to start date.

• Basic Life Support Health Care Provider card through American Heart Association

• Must obtain a National Provider Identifier (NPI) prior to start date.

• Valid WA State Food Handers Permit, CPR, and First Aide Certification.

• Valid Washington State Driver’s License and safety record to transport clients.

• Ability to pass a drive test upon hire.

• Must be 21 years of age per state regulations



Physical Requirements & Disclosure of Risks: Employees must have a demonstrated ability to implement physical restraints according to Secure Crisis Management, POC and Safety and Security / Behavior Management Plans and to assist in the transfer of medically fragile clients. Sunstone youth may have a history of self-harm, aggressive behavior and assault. Youth may exhibit aggressive behaviors, property destruction, assault of staff and/or other youth, and self-harm. Sunstone staff are required to be able to physically intervene in situations of assaultive behaviors or imminent bodily harm. These physical interventions require staff to use their full body to restrain the individual and may require transitions from kneeling to standing or standing to kneeling. Interventions must be done without hesitation. Staff are provided training in de-escalation, evasion, physical restraint and seclusion. This training must be completed as scheduled to continue your employment.
